Is there a way to "mirror" components so they don't have the "mirror" suffix?

Is there a way to "mirror" components so they don't have the "mirror" suffix?

Hi all,

I have a design I cannot share but it is similar to a car wheel assembly, for example:
For this example, I've modeled components and inserted XREF components for one wheel. My symmetry plane is where it needs to be, in the middle of the car. We can see on the picture that we have some mirrored components (wheel uprights, wishbones, etc.) and also we have some components that are multiplied (wheel hubs, brake discs, rims, tyres, wheel nut etc).

Also, I need to make the BOM for the drawing. The mirror command generates the suffix "mirror" for components. That is causing the BOM to be huge, and not following the real thing because there are two wheel hubs or two wheel nuts or two rims whose geometry is completely equal, but in the BOM there is a component and component(mirror).

Is there a way to solve this?

Many thanks for your time,
Dean

You can just rename the mirrored components to be whatever you want them to be named.  Just a slow double-click in the component name will allow you to edit it.

here is a screencast to illustrate:

Well, sir thank you for recording the screencast, but I really didn't expect an answer so simple.
Unfortunately, it doesn't answer my question. I'm aware of the rename function, and it doesn't help in this case.

I have 19 components (5 XREF and 14 created) that I want to mirror so that the counter in the table in the drawing goes from 1 to 2, not from (for this example) wheel hub (1) to wheel hub (1) mirror. It's something like in Inventor (if I recall correctly).

I hope you understand the struggle because I have to be able to show the CAD model with all of the components to my superior.
The goal is to model only half of the assembly, mirror it, and see the counter in BOM table and be sure that yes, there are two, four, 20 equal components. Then we can use the counter to correctly order and purchase the components.

I've read on the forum that the mirror function is just that, a mirror of the original component. That seems correct and true. But what about a new symmetry function that would copy and paste the existing components and the counter would go from 1 to 2 or more? I made a post in the Ideastation already.

I believe I am looking for the same solution for a different reason.

When components are duplicated using the mirror function, they do not maintain the same behavior as like components.

If I mirror something and then go and edit that mirror, those changes do not effect the original component.

i have the same problem, because of this i can not mirror anything.

Im working with CATIA for 12 years, and theres no solution for this either. And its annoying. fusion is new and fresh to me, i hope that the team behind it may find a solution for this. This would be fantastic!

Has anyone found a solution for this yet? Quite a colossal annoyance with a seemingly simple solution.

Hi,

not sure, but really in 2022 is it not possibile to miroor a comp and choose reuse/new component in Fusion?

Is the only workaraund to copy/pattern?

Please show me that it's not like this.

I'm bringing this thread back to the top, because I have the same issue at the moment.
Symmetical components which get mirrored should be same component and have the same name in my case.
The BOM list should be 1 line: component "name" and quantity: 2.
