Is it possible to render a transparent background and solid background in the same render?

When I render with no background it appears to render the background anyway, but when I save it is transparent (which is what I want) but I also want the version with the background.  It seems odd that I have to render it twice?  You would think there would just be an alpha channel or something on those lines, or a way to save it in both formats?

Any help would be appreciated, I am having to double render everything which takes time...

The "transparent" background is applied to the model components.

So either you want a transparent background around a component or not, but there is no in between.

This is a visual question, so perhaps it would help if you provided an image of what you wish to see?

I have a attached a number of screen grabs:

slide 1 render setup, set to transparent
1.jpg

slide 2, rendering, notice how it renders the background even though I have it set to transparent
2.jpg

slide 3, finished render, once again notice the background was rendered

slide 4, saving the rendered image

slide 5, open saved image, notice it is transparent, that is great, that is what I wanted, but since it took the time to render the background, why can I not also save a version with the background?  In my case my customer wants a transparent background, plus a version with the background.  So, I am having to render the image twice, when clearly it is rendering the entire image anyway and then using an alpha channel or something to knock the background out on save.

I am just asking, because this seems like it would be a great option for more people than just me.  Maybe this isn't possible now but seems like something that could be added to the render options...

Thanks for taking the time, if there is a way to do this that would be great if not maybe it can be added to a list of upgrades for future updates to the program.

Thanks for the explanation. It's reasonable to ask for access to the data with these options. An improvement ticket has been logged based on your post.

Faster pc or upgrade gpu to an RTX. Alternatively, can use virtual online pc.
