Is it possible to control output options for IGES files?

We operate a laser cutting shop and have a tubing laser. We need to generate files to run on the machine, which only uses IGES files. Specifically, files that are saved as surfaces, trimmed, using NURBS. We thought we may be able to use Fusion, but they are not the correct type of file apparently. There is data, but the machine software will not open it. We are using CypTube control software and so far the only files we have been able to use have come from Inventor LT and Solidworks.

I can design a project in Fusion, export it as an IGES and bring it into Inventor LT, then save it out again with the proper settings. That works fine, but I would prefer to get back to the Fusion environment if possible. We also have a CNC router and the CAM in Fusion is great for that. It would be nice to have one platform to service both machines instead of jumping around.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for raising your query onto Autodesk Forum.

I would like to inform you that there is already a Feature request for "Customization of the export to IGES as a Nurbs model". Reference: FUS-45100

I have added your request to the above mentioned existing Feature request.

As already mentioned by you, we can export the design from Fusion 360 as an IGES then open it in Inventor LT and then export it again with proper settings as required.

Thanks and Regards,

Has this request been actioned by Fusion yet?

I have to go to solidworks to get the iges file to translate to our laser cutter.

Very frustrating.

The file needs to be changed from exporting as a body to exporting as a surface as Inventor does it.

@natalevo79 Does unstitching the model before export give you what you need?

If I unstitch a body and export it reimports as unstitched surfaces.

I don't believe there has been any change made to Fusion to allow export
options on IGES files. I just use Inventor for my design and exporting now,
which is aggravating.
I am now using two softwares, that do virtually the same thing. I still use
Fusion for modeling and CAM for my machining jobs. But, if I need to design
or modify a tube laser job, I have to use Inventor.
Ultimately, it would be nice if the laser control software would update
from a legacy format and start using STEP files or something more up to
date.
