I'm attempting to project a grid of points onto the soles of shoe models imported from 3d scans. The scans are imperfect and many have somewhat large holes. We've tried every repair option (close holes, rebuild , wrap, etc) and get the same error when trying to project the points. Can you help explain what this error means and give some possibilities for how to work around this?  Thanks!Screen Shot 2021-11-24 at 2.45.33 PM.png

To be honest, I don't know what that error means.  However, just looking at the image here, and the low quality of the mesh, and the fact that you have converted it to a solid with one face per mesh facet, it does not surprise me that you are getting errors.  If you had been able to get past this one, you will just find more problems the farther you go.

Since a shoe is an "organic" shape, you might have better luck following this tutorial by @TrippyLighting :  how-to-work-with-irregular-and-organic-stl-files .  Use this method, with the original mesh that you started with, as a way to get to a solid or surface model that is higher quality, and easier to work with.
