insert obj mesh says mesh is empty

I created an file.obj in photocatch on my iMac. I then opened fusion 360 and chose insert mesh, choose the obj file and leave all the defaults in the insert mesh screen.  When I do that I have a body named _1 with a warning triangle and the hover over message is that the "mesh is empty".

I've tried all of the different repair types and none work.  What am I missing?

Thanks,

Daniel

I am sure you'll agree that without having access to the .obj file this is hard to assess 😉

this is my first time in forums here.  I just added the obj as an attachment.

Can you explain what your end goal is with this object ?

I was also not able to get it to show in the viewport.

Yet, in Windows preview it shows just fine.

Opening it in meshmixer works fine:

When opening it in Blender it also shows just fine.

Only Fusion 360 cannot get it right!

So I simply exported it into another .obj from Blender and then it imports fine into Fusion 360:

I am hoping these are the correct dimensions:

I am a complete novice to this software and process.

This first obj was just a test to see what the process would be.

My goal is to capture a good sized jewelry ring into fusion 360, modify it and then print 3d resin to create a new ring with lost wax investment casting.

I am open to all advice as I am learning (a ton) of what it will take just to print the 3d model.

Thank you!

You need to elaborate on how you imagine for that to work.

Scanned data usually contains triangulated meshes.

Generally a CAD software like Fusion 360 is not the proper tool to modify mesh data for most use cases.

Can you take a picture of such a piece of jewelry and then describe the modifications you want to make?

See attached photos of what I hope to capture and replace the top, and side panels with my own image I've created in Vectornator.

If fusion 360 is the wrong place for me to try this I'm open to other options.

I thought it would be faster for me to try and modify something I imported than to start from scratch, but if the only way to do this is to start from scratch in Fusion 360, I'm ok with that.

I would go through the self paced learning first and see if you then can imagine a workflow that gets you closer to your goal.

Getting all these fine textures onto that ring will be a real challenge in Fusion 360 it it is even possible.

Generally, such more organically shaped models are not beginner projects. So some patience is required

A mesh mased software with real sculpting abilities, such as Blender might serve you better, but then Blender is also not easy to learn.
