Impossible To Delete Files Due To "Design is used.." Bug

Hello,

I don't know how this is not a more broadly discussed problem, Im constantly (!) having Issues with Fusions file management. About 70% of the time it works perfectly fine, but boy the 30% not working to trigger me.

Im sorry but as a paying Customer, its an absolute Joke to face "A version of this design has been referenced by drawings, other Designs, or manufacturing-related files and cannot be deleted." Errors.

Yes, I did repeatedly check if there is no connections to other files, in the Desktop as well as the Web App, waited for minutes, rebooted, etc. It won't let me delete some parts. This is also nothing new at all, Im using Fusion for about 3 Years now, and this Issue is persisting since the very beginning.

At work, network is at a fiber backbone.. at home Starlink. Both are more than fast enough and have great Latency (2/30 ms), this can not, ever, be the reason for my Issues.

I like Fusion overall, the Mac Version and overall UX is why I choose it over Solidworks, but good lord if that keeps bugging me I will switch. This is hindering me, this is bothering me. Its a joke. And it sows fear of Fusion loosing my Files altogether.. really Autodesk?

I will gladly invite support staff into a demo project to help delete the fkin files.

thank you.

This is usually (99.99% of the time) because it's linked to an old version in another design. Unfortunately Fusion does not let you check all versions of the file you're trying to delete and all version of every other design to tell you what version of the file is linked to what version of another design (Fusion only reports on the current version). Even if it did you have no way to delete the version history from a design so no way to delete anyway.

The only option you might have is to download the assembly as an F3Z, upload to a new project then delete all designs that were in the original project. This problem has been discussed many times on the forum.

Thank you for the Explanation @HughesTooling

However... this seems like an absolute Joke.. like does Autodesk expect me to actually painfully Export and Import the Files....?

One other option is if you know the assembly that is using the design in its version history you're trying to delete you can use Save Copy As to create a copy that will be V1 with no history, then just delete the original assembly then the file you no longer want. This will only work for simple distributed designs without branches to other assemblies\2d drawings though.

Because there's no way to edit version history at the moment the only other option is create a Junk folder in the project and move the file to the junk folder. There's always a chance you'll want the version of the design that used that file!

As sad as this is, this worked for a few Designs/Parts...

Create new Project, and move Files there, then delete created Project again..

It works on 60% of my Files, I still have some which I can NOT delete, NOT move, nothing. Still this is a Joke, period.

Cloud is very very cool, but a giant PITA when it doesnt work. What on earth is so hard to fix that? I refuse to understand how this is still a bug, and that I can not force a break of Design History...
