Importing DXF files failed but opens in AutoCad

I have a DXF file from a vendor and tried to import it for Fusion 360. It uploads quickly (less than 110K file) and then takes a long time before listing as "failed". An error message appears but it fades away before I can read it.

I have a colleague take the file and it opens in AutoCad with no problem. He then saved the file and it will import successfully into Fusion 360.

attached are the original "bad" file and the one saved from autocad "good" file.

Hi @bradanlane

Thanks for posting! It looks like you are experiencing an issue in which a DXF file cannot be imported into Fusion 360. That is unfortunate.

Are you uploading the DXF files through the Fusion 360 Data Panel? I noticed that the "panel-bad.dxf" file also failed when uploading through the Data Panel due to a Translation report. This suggests that these DXF files could be natively created in a format that Fusion cannot translate directly to the cloud. Fusion defaults to the use of R14 DXF files - most other programs use R12, but there are some other specific types that can cause issues. Saving a DXF out of AutoCAD will translate the file to R12 or R14, which may explain the behavior you have experienced with being able to upload the file after opening and saving in AutoCAD.

I did find, however, that I could use the "Insert DXF" tool to successfully import both of the files you attached. I have shown how to do so in the screencast below. Hopefully this will help! Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am having a similar problem with the importing of a .dxf file from my computer library file, that opens up in a number of different Cad and CAM software.  But when I try to open the file up in Fusion 360 utilising the INSERT methodology my Fusion 360 sytem wont engage the OK button, and seizes / locks up requiring the rebooting of the software.

Hi CADWISPERER, I greatly appreciate your efforts and response, and ackowledge that there are a number of .dxf files created around the world in different versions of .DXF.      My first problem is that i don't seem to be competent enough to get my file zipped and uploaded onto you site as requested.   My second problem is that I anticipated that i could use / need Fusion 360 to open these old model aeroplane drawings etc, so that i can edit and then utilize the new .DXF Files for Other CAD and CAM purposes.

Are you on Windows or Mac OS?

On Windows - right click on the file and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder and then Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

You might not need to zip the file to attach here (not sure if they have fixed *.dxf attachments).
