Imported DXF line engraving sketch doesn't stay put when updating component in other assembly

Hi,

I imported a DXF file containing line engraving information and positioned the DXF onto the top surface of my component. When this component is updated ("get latest") in another assembly, the DXF line engraving information does not appear at the same coordinates relative to the component (see attached screenshots).

Is there an explanation for this behavior or is this a bug?

it's a little hard to say without the model itself, but one possible cause is an uncaptured component move in the "Front Panel" design.  Your screen capture does not quite go high enough, but if you open that design, do you see this UI in the upper right corner?

That indicates that a component in this design has been moved, but its position has not been captured.  If you click on the left icon (Capture Position), it will record that position and that will transfer to the assembly design.

This is not, however, a recommended practice, as it is not associative to any geometry.  Better to use Joints to position things, if you can.

I believe what you did was to place your DXF sketch on top of, instead of inside, the linked file.  This is shown in your first attached picture.  If you had opened the linked file, Front Panel Engraving, and place the DXF sketch in it, you would not have experienced the issue when the file was position in your top level assembly, picture number 2.  I did a Screencast of what you did, according to your pictures, and the result.

Thank you both for your input.

John, you are correct about the method I used. This worked correctly for me the first time I used it. The front panel was positioned on the vise and had a Rigid Group constraint. I then went back to the front panel and imported the line engraving DXF. I positioned it on the top surface of the front panel and it showed correctly in the vise assembly. I then updated the line engraving DXF (Import New Version). I had to reposition the DXF on the front panel but then it did not show up correctly in the vise assembly.

Jeff, the UI you circled was not visible in either the front panel or assembly toolbar. Based on your suggestion I added a Rigid Group between the DXF and component and this solved the positioning issue in the assembly. I initially didn't think I needed this as I didn't intend to move the front panel.
