Image as a custom appearance: position (offset) and scale (sample size) problem

Dear all contributors and Fusion 360 users,

I'm encountering a weird problem when I try to set an image (png or jpeg file) as a custom appearance.

I'm following the procedure described in the following video to add an image to one face of a component.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/screencast/Main/Details/bc3bf5f...

It worked pretty well but I encountered 2 strange problems:

- when I try to set my image sample size width and height to 6mm (size of my component), Fusion 360 changes it to 6.10mm once I hit the enter key.

- when I try to change the position offset of my image by clicking the arrows right next to the input field, nothing happen. If I type directly 1mm (weither in the X or Y field), Fusion 360 changes it to 1.02mm (if I try to enter 0.1mm, it changes it to 0.00mm once I hit enter).

I tried different image size (500x500px, 1100x1100px, ...) and different format (JPEG, PNG, BMP) but nothing seems to have any effect.

I don't know if it's a software limit, a problem or simply a setting I forget to change.

Yours sincerely

Hey misterobotique,

Can you share an .F3D archive of your design so someone can take a look?

Thank for your answer jodom4

Please find one of the designs I encounter the problem described.

The component size is 14.7 x 15.3 mm but when I input those dimensions in the sample size fields of the [Texture Editor - Parameters], Fusion 360 automatically changes them to 14.73 x 15.24 mm.

Did you ever find out how to fix this? It's been driving me nuts.

Same frustration here I really wish there was a good way to do this neither this method or decals offer a reliable and intuitive way to place an image onto a face with exact size and location accuracy. Im very frustrated. Im trying place a packaging artwork on a surface when I insert into a texture with sample size at 53.75 x 8.0625 it show up as i tiny rectangle I find results are also erratic I feel I did the something with more success a while ago.

The following is working for me:

  • When editing the position or scale, instead of pressing enter, I click outside the editable box. There if the desired value is maintained.

Hello,

I think so the values in Fusion 360 changes because it converts pixels to mm from the source image.

Exemple if you have made an image of 420mm width, converted to pixel it will be 1191 pixels.

When the image is imported in Fusion, it converts the pixels to mm like this :
1191 pixels / ( 72 dpi / 25,4mm ) = 420.16 mm
and there is 0.16mm of difference and makes the unwanted values.
