I did not think about third party software vendors when I in installed. Big Sur last night.   Then I opened Fusion 360 this am.   Has anybody tried to run Fusion with the new beta?

@g.isley we are testing Big Sur though I'm not sure I've seen this issue myself. Could you please share a screenshot of About this Mac, and a file or recording of the entire screen that showcases this behavior?

If you need to resolve this quickly, my recommendation would be to create a new flexible APFS volume, and reinstall Catalina there until Big Sur is released.

I think that can happen if you reply directly to the email notification. Try uploading while using the text editor, and that should work (let me know if not).

I have posted another screen capture with the bizarre colors.  It appears to be a graphics driver problem.

Those colors are quite loud, indeed.

Could you please share your system specs? A screenshot of About This Mac should give me most of what I need.

Hi Lance,

Here is another annoying visual effect.  When dragging an object you get this tail effect.

@g.isley, do you experience this graphics lag in the Drawings environment, too? Or perhaps in iMovie, other OpenGL-accelerated apps? (As opposed to native Metal graphics)

Here is something we can try, to narrow it down:

  1. With Fusion 360 closed, open the Terminal app
  2. Enter
    launchctl setenv NEUTRON_DISABLE_GL_METAL_LAYER "1"
  3. Restart Fusion 360
  4. If you wish to undo the previous Terminal command, enter
    launchctl unsetenv NEUTRON_DISABLE_GL_METAL_LAYER

Lance,

Thanks but I reinstalled Catalina. It also affected Cura 4.6. The same thing happened when I Beta tested Catalina. But with other programs.

While I have you on the line, so to speak. When I installed Fusion 360 I got two apps installed. One in the application folder one and in the Library Application support folder. If I open both I get to separate versions of 360. Do you know why?

Thanks,

Gary

Application Support sounds like you might have an IT Admin installed version, as these are mass-deployed for multi-user labs, while the traditional streamer install is per-user. Do you have different installers for each? Is one ~700MB?

No the install client disk image was 35.1MB

That is odd. As a general precaution I would try to uninstall one or both of them (you may wish to utilize the clean uninstaller utility) just to be safe, though I'm not sure what would cause it to install to a different directory in the first place.

Please help. I have the exact same Mac as @g.isley and I am having the EXACT same problems occurring. Fusion 360 is completely unusable and a patch needs to be resolved. I tried all solutions above to no avail.

@mnagdmor can you please provide the same information? Logs, screen recording, screenshot of About This Mac would be of great help.

@mnagdmor @g.isley it's looking like this might be an issue with Anti Aliasing on some Intel chipsets on Big Sur. A workaround for the moment appears to be disabling Anti-Aliasing.

The quickest way to do this is to go to Help > Support and Diagnostics > Graphics Diagnostic. At the bottom is a checkbox to Limit effects to optimize performance. You can start by checking this and restarting Fusion 360, then go back into Preferences > Graphics and adjust some settings back up (e.g. high-resolution graphics) until you reach a happy balance of compatibility and visual quality.

I've been having pretty good luck with Big Sur on a MacBook Pro 2016 with an eGPU. At first, everything but the 3D Connexion device worked great. (Their Drivers are not compatible) But, after the Beta 4, Fusion will no longer open a Drawings.

So, if I need to make any blueprints, it's off to Parallels!

After comparing Win vs Mac Fusion version, Windows is much more stable and the UI is more refined. But I'm NOT complaining! Please continue to support MacOS : )
