How to Troubleshoot Fusion Performance Issues

Hi to all,

We sometimes hear from members of our community that they are running into performance issues with Fusion. We’ve noticed some common themes and would like to address some of the most frequently brought-up topics, along with tips for how to address them if you ever experience a performance issue firsthand.

Please follow this link to my colleague Emily Suzuki's blog post.

I'm learning patch mode now and have some difficulties. After some patch operations when I want to to edit previous sketches and patch them again, I see something like this, surface doesn't connect to its sketch and make holes between itself and connected surface. I know holes between surfaces can be fixed by stich operation, but i want to prevent them to appear. What can I do?

@igor.blokhin2003 what, if one might ask, has that to do with performance issues?

I know about the check box "Limit effects to optimize performance." to help with graphics load.

For those wondering click question mark in top right corner then Support and Diagnostics>Graphics Diagnostic>check box at the bottom of pop up window.

My question is, are there any other settings in Fusion 360 to help with performance with lower end systems, either CPU or GPU related, or is that the only one?

@Silv3rDragon

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file that exhibits issue with performance to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

In my experience almost all performance issues are based in computationally expensive modeling techniques.

@TheCADWhisperer  It is not a particular file that has issues but more performance in general.  It is a 10 year old cheap laptop and not ideal hence why asking about any other settings that could help, like the graphics one, or is that the only performance setting that Fusion 360 has?

@Silv3rDragon
All the more important to use computationally efficient modeling techniques for every design.

We've seen quite a few people upgrade their computers and see no real gain because the problem is their workflow. That's why @TheCADWhisperer is asking to see a design. You might find you can gain a lot of performance by optimising how you work, more than you'll get from a faster computer.

I am aware and am learning those and getting better at it, but until then, are there any other settings?

Even a basic cube can feel a bit slow but this is the computer I have for now.  I ask if there are other settings because it takes time to learn all the best practices but a setting I can change will help in the mean time.

@Silv3rDragon No there are no other settings. What graphics card do you have, can you get a screengrab of Fusion's graphics diagnostics?

Thank you, I was afraid there were no other settings other than that one but had some hope. It's an i3 4030u and using integrated graphics.

I don't think this meets the minimum requirements and I suggest you get a better computer.

2GB of video memory is very little for Fusion 360 and that 2-Core processor can hardly  keep up with modern Windows 11 OS tasks, let alone a CAD system.

Most CAD modeling is single core dependent, so for a next computer don't focus on number of cores, but on single core base clock and single core boost clock.

I have a better computer at work for most stuff and the laptop is just at home with upgrade plans when I can.  Dont need the mobility anymore so planning on a desktop that should have better performance than a similarly priced laptop.  Till then its youtube videos on the phone while its thinking.  It is also lightweight windows 10.

Thank you for sharing this article. I apologize for what is probably a completely ignorant question, but with regard to section 3, can you explain the difference between red and yellow broken features. The article stress the importance of fixing these, which I do not doubt, but is there any guidance for how to fix these? Usually, I find that if I have to make a bunch of edits and modifications it starts to get so messing that I end up just starting again from scratch. It goes much smoother the second try once when I know where I am headed. It would be nice to be able to fix my messes instead of just starting again, but I really don't understand how to fix these things once they are broken.

I am having trouble saving any files. When I go to exit the software it is saying 14 jobs remaining. I have tried giving the files time to save but its been like this for about 2 weeks now, I have also connected to several several different internet/wifi to rule out that problem.

I would recommend to start a different thread and share a model with such yellow/red timeline features.

That will allow us to provide more targeted feedback

Hello, the new fusion version is a monumental disaster, nothing works, any bug! until the view of my files that do not appear that are saved. please thank you before making updates of verifiers and do it at night please, because it is always in full days that you do it is that disturb everything. Every time I lose all my modifications or I can no longer work, it becomes unbearable. thank you for your comprehension.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM  the last patch that added the BING AI chatbot int he bottom right ( support agent)
fusion works like a piece of turd. .
its slow. it crashes like a banshee in heat on crack . and its stopping my work ..
added to that the 'plastics' features are an addon that cost the same as a full licence per year in tokens. and are things i can do manually  faster than i can earn the moeny its supposed to save me time on

fusion refuses to leverage the full power of my pc.. 64gb ram ddr5 6500 and  and multicore AMD CPU and nvidia 3070TI

OmegaDreams_0-1722448017898.png

this is what it looks like when fusion is 'hung' thinking.. because the ai

and its been now two weeks i cant make progrss on a build because my cloud  file of it has become corrupeted that nothing lines up anymore.
SOMEONE HELP and tell me hwo to remove this AI ..
