How to Taper/Draft Text that has been extruded from object

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have a cylinder that has been extruded and have created text that I have Extruded "from object" that needs to be draft/tapered. As it is a chocolate mold the sides of the text need to be on a slight angle for the letters to come out. As it is on a cylinder I am having major problems due to not being able to select a plane as it is the text surface is curved. Anyone know how I can overcome this!

Thanks Heaps

Thanks, But its not really what I am looking for. I am looking to do this but on a curved surface.

The screencast way is applied for any curved surface that you want. Have a try

I have tried it but it does not work. Draft doesn't work.

@MoshiurRashid is sorta correct, he can rely on the radial taper from the centre of the cylinder, vertically but not for the horizontal faces,

If that asymmetric Taper not what you wanted, then it fails as you say.

You will have to go through the Sheet Metal. unfold edit and refold routine, but be aware that the radial taper is also applied to the result, with that assymetric taper being involved there too.

Might help....

Draft?  You have not used draft in the movie, and the text will snag, when removing from the mould.

OP needs release from mould.

As @davebYYPCU  has said that this text is not suitable as the product would not be able to be released from the mold.

Thanks @davebYYPCU  I will have a go with the sheet metal method. I just cant seem to figure it out drafting the sides of each letter on curved surface.

Hi,

I saw what @davebYYPCU  said.

Since there was no template from you I first showed the principle with the sheet metal tools. But the tapered text has nothing to do with it. I can also put it on the part shown in the screencast, as you can see here.

However, not all fonts are suitable for tapering, because self-intersections occur.

My work around for text on a cylindrical mold or pattern is to apply generous fillets to the letters since draft won't work. You also might have to delete some extra faces on the letters to get the fillets to work.

I am having similar issues.  the mold wont release because there is no ramp, or reverse fillet on the text that butts up against the flat surface that is the base of the text.   i can fillet the top just fine. I need a slight ramp where the text meets the base.  Sad that fusion does not do this like 99% of all other CAD programs and 3D design tools.

Can you attach an f3d file of your model?
