How to Remap 2 Finger Click Drag on Fusion 360 Mac OS

When using Fusion 360 on a MacBook I find the native trackpad gesture mappings to be a little wonky.

In virtually every other 3D program I use the specific gesture of "2-finger click and drag" is for orbit or at least pan - certainly with the options to remap them in the preferences panel.

Yet in Fusion 360, when this move is performed, there is instead the very silly idea of popping up some contextual menu with undo, delete, and a bunch of other risky actions easily being selected when muscle memory goes for this move.

Additionally, the default behavior is to have pan and orbit be 2 finger swipe and zoom with no click. When using a trackpad this easily and intentionally switches between both actions as you try to do one or the other and it is very inconvenient.

Okay, with all this in mind how do I remap the behavior?

To be sure I am looking to A) get rid of the pop-up contextual menu, and B) map "2-finger click and drag" to orbit.

Is this possible?

Also, maybe there is a place to do this I am missing but the built in preferences panel shows very little places to change this.

I hope that was intelligible and thank you for any tips!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback.

The Fusion 360 gestures are modeled after macOS gestures. For instance, there is no click-and-drag gesture in mac Trackpad settings. There are two and three finger swipes. Scrolling is done with swiping. Orbiting in Fusion is also done with swiping.

I use "tap to click" in macOS trackpad settings, just FYI, it's easier than having to actually click.

But to answer your question, just like macOS itself, Fusion doesn't have a way to customize "swipe" to be "click and drag" because Fusion is using the native macOS gestures.

I think you also might benefit from using Tinkercad navigation. This will avoid most of that risky right click menu you describe.

To set this:

1. Go to the help menu

2. Quick Setup

3. Navigate and view: Tinkercad

Does that help?
