How to merge 3 surfaces in one without geometry distortion ?

Hello,

In Fusion 360 I try to merge 3 surfaces in one without distortion (see capture).

Is there a way to do that ?

I didn't find a solution after many tests...

Thanks for your help.Capture.JPG

Not checked the file.

For solid bodies, Modify > Combine > Join.

For Surface bodies Modify > Stitch.

I think this is the best you are going to be able to do in Fusion 360.  I think that there is a little distortion right around the middle.  Model is attached.

an important point here is:  This design is already one body:

If you don't want to see the lines between faces, just choose "shaded" as the viewing style:

which will show the model without edges:

Your model does not have history turned, so we cannot comment on how the tangent discontinuities were created, but if this model was created with Loft, there are ways that you can prevent these

Your model and question don't have any context.

Please share a complete model and not a dumbed down version.

Fixing these curves will help, too.ftmgalw.PNG

Thanks for the try.

It's maybe something not possible in Fusion 360.

I compare your object with the original and there is some geometry distortion:Sans titre.png

I test your trick but you can't select all the surfaces as one surface. Fusion360 always see 3 surfaces.

You can't do this kind of complex surface with loft. You must use scult mode.

Already tried, stitch doesn't merge 2 surfaces in one.

We don't know what you've tried. Again, please share a complete model.

It's a demo model to see the limitation of Fusion 360.

If we can't merge 3 simples surfaces, imagine with a bigger project...

There is maybe a trick with scult mode that I don't know.

Then share the C.O.M.P.L.E.T.E demo model including the timeline.

Chances are that your complete demo model is in need of a serious cleanup.

Too many spline points, too many loft profiles, will do that distortion to you.

If you used more than one loft, yes you get distortion.

This does not need Sculpting, just top and bottom rails, with 3 point spline, but your basic shape does not flow smooth, as my curve combs show.

Cleaner geometry works ok.

I attach to this post a quick complete model with timeline enable so you can see how it's made.

How in Fusion360 I can merge the 2 loft surfaces in the capture below ? It's possible without any redraw ?

Thanks to have a look.

Yes I understand a little better the problem. Thanks for your analysis.

How can I smooth  the geometry by linking the 2 surfaces without re drawing as you did? There is a tool to do that in Fusion360 ?

Thanks for your trick.

Not checked the file yet.  There is no “quick” in Fusion, good preparation works well.

No trick, less is better, but you will have to replace splines with that many spline points, or

you waste your time.  Mine is 2 and 3 point spline.

just do one surface loft, not sculpt, eliminate centre geometry,

top to bottom, (3 point spline) and front to back ( 2 point spline (and tangent line for back.))

Middle one is causing bumps and groove.

I generally agree with @davebYYPCU observations.

However, I actually looked at the file and what I see confirms what I already suspected. You don't have enough of experience in CAD and in particular surfacing and T-Splines to assess Futons 360's abilities. Most Fusion 360 users don't have enough experience to assess Fusion 360's abilities in the area of surfacing or T-Splines.

This is a surfacing project all day long and should NOT be done with T-Splines.

Here is what I would recommend. Pick a concrete project of medium complexity and try to do it with Fusion 360.

Start a new thread and share the model early on, perhaps after the first sketches. Then we can guide you much better and you'll avoid the mistakes in the model you have shared. These aren't only mistakes in terms of the techniques and tools used, button a deeper level they indicate a misunderstanding of concepts.

I'll create a little screencast later how I would create such an object.

I just watch some tutorials on youtube and some users have use T-Splines...

Yes it's a surfacing project or we can call that a "wireframe to object".

The concepts in Fusion 360 are not user friendly. In most software you just right click on the surface and click modify.

In Fusion 360 you must go in the timeline, trying to find the good Form when you have many and after you can maybe modify the good surface. What a pain.

Other example:

- You can't merge 2 splines. You must re draw the 2 splines with one spline.

- You can't merge 2 surfaces without huge distortion as we saw in this post.

- If you do 2 big rectangulars pattern in a sktech, Fusion 360 just take all memory and crash.

- ...

Yes I don't understand some concepts so that's why I write in this forum.

Fusion 360 is maybe not the right tool.
