How to fix Error: Position calculation failed due to initialization error?

Hi,

Fusion 360 just broke my design 😕

With my latest design I tried to follow many best practices:

- structure design as many components

- assembling/joing components while designing

- using parameters throughout the design

After adjusting 1(!) variable/parameter to make my design a little wider, everything fell apart....  It is really hard to tell how I can fix this. Most of my joints broke with the red error. "Error: Position calculation failed due to initialization error"

I have no idea how to fix those. When I try to edit these joints and reselect the contact points it fails with the same error. What is going on?

I attached the broken file for debugging. I am looking forward to ideas how I can salvage my project. Thanks

EDIT: It looks like even just move a single feature in the timelint will cause it to fall apart. Same goes for trying to edit/delete a capture position feature. In each case a perfect timeline (no errors) goes red with the above unsolvable errors and many joints.

The joint system is sensitive to the geometry being joined.  Most likely, the parameter change has made the parts involved in the joints system no longer line up correctly.  First step:  Undo that change (or promote the previous version).  Next, understand exactly what that parameter change did to the geometry of the components in your assembly.  Most likely it has caused some misalignment.

Thanks for the quick reply. I already looked through my history and tried to fix it but to no avail.

I noticed that the error also occurs on other changes in my design, not only parameter changes. Changing the order of older features, editing random features, etc. Looks like the design is truly messed up.

@jeff_strater How would I go about manually fixing the joints after the error occurs? I already tried 1) editing the broken joint and reselecting the two meeting points. Yet, the same error occurs and the edit is invalidate immediately. 2) I tried to remove the broken joint and create a new joint instead. The new joints can't event be created and break with the same error.

you likely cannot fix the joints for the same reason they are failing at the moment - the component geometry does not line up correctly with the joints you have specified.  You said that you made one parameter change that started the process. I'd go back and undo that change and see if you can get your design into a state where the joints work again, then try to understand how that parameter change affects various components in your design which are participating in the joint system.  There are no easy ways out, to be honest.

You  can also try to delete all the joints, and re-create them one by one - it will likely point out which joint is the one that triggers the whole system to fail.
