How to edit spur gear

How to edit spur gear

I designed a spur gear using the "add-in" & did get things to work, but now I need to edit the spur gear and can't seem to find a way to do that.  I have gone thru all the parts in my timeline, but still can't figure out how to edit the spur gear.

Also, when I use the spur gear script it did not show up in my drop-down menus.  Had to keep loading it up from the add-in/script area each time I went to use it.

Thanks to all that reply,

Attach your gear model and let the forum users take a look.  Also, what is the Add-In you are using.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

Sir John, thanks for the reply,  I am not sure which SpurGear script I used (two choices), as per the drop-down menu from the Add-In's.

You did not say what you wanted to edit about the gear.  In the Screencast, I show you how to get into the modeling of the gear.  You can easily add a bore but if you are getting into editing the tooth profile, you would be better off just generating a new gear.

Thanks John, great explainer video.  I was trying to find a way to access the original spur gear design box that allows you to enter all the gear parameters.  I may have to change/modify the backlash clearance, just can't find a way to do that.  I am starting to see that maybe I started my design wrong and may have to start first with the the ring gear, then make the smaller pinion gears, then design the housing last.

I'm an older fella trying to learn new stuff.

The Add-Ins do not allow you to edit an existing gear, they only allow you to create a new one so that is the way you should go.  If you are building a ring gear and want to use planetary gears inside it, take a look at the attached model.  Drag one or both of the input shafts If you are interested on getting the motion in the planetary set, take a look at my blog article and video on the subject.  You can skip the the third example if that is all you are interested in.

Edit: You are not ever too old to learn.  I am in my 70's and am learning everyday.

John, very odd, when I follow your forum video reply I can not see the formation/sketch of the first gear tooth using the timeline, but can see the extruded tooth.  To be clear, If I mouse over the origin of the first tooth, in the time-line, I can see the location, but it does stay on the screen like your example showed.

Here is a screen capture with all the items marked that have to be visible to see the tooth profile.  Notice I turn off you main body so it does not interfere.

John, thanks again, the main reason I could not see the tooth sketch was because I use a white background, where you use a grey background.

So many little details, to drive one crazy.

Do you do any Fusion 360 tutoring?

My last issue with this edit is that I can't seem to go back to the full model grey.  I still see my 6 pinion gears in blue but the rest of my model is kind of transparent.

The only way I have found to get back to the original model showing grey is to exit out of Fusion, don't save, then open up/reload Fusion, than all goes back to normal modelling.

I had you "Activate" the gear component, so that grays out the rest of the assembly.  The attached Screencast will show you how to get back to the full model.
