How to easily import/position parts into separate file

Hey Everyone,

I made a file that represents the spoilboard on my CNC and I'm wanting to import separate components from different files so I can position them in specific places on my CNC. Additionally, most of my parts will be cut out of a larger piece of wood so the actual part will be smaller than the stock material.

My part file has the part sketched and extruded to the final size, however the sketch also includes a separate bounding box to represent the overall material dimensions.

So far I've found I need to open my spoilboard file, then right click my part file from the data panel and import it into the current design. After that I do a few different things like point to point and translate the z-axis to position the part on my spoilboard.

My question is if there is a better way to go about doing this? It seems a little tedious to think about doing if I needed to position multiple parts. This is the first time I've started importing other parts into new designs so I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something.

I've attached both of my files for reference.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @thespaltydog ,

You are doing no wrong when you add from data panel, however depending on your requirement you can also try the insert derive feature as well and later position your components based on your requirement

Here's a quick help info on how to use insert derive and its uses : https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=ASM-DERIVED-DESIGN-FEATURES

Let me know if this helps
Thanks!!
