How to cut an imported pipe from mcmaster

Hi,

I'm trying to cut a long unthreaded pipe I downloaded from McMaster into many pieces. I've tried drawing rectangles and using them as a template to "split the body", but it isnt working. Youtubes online indicated that I should use the explode tool, but the videos weren't dealing with cylindirical objects , so it is harder to draw parts to remove from the base object.  Please note that I might not be using the terms parts and object correctly, as I am brand new to fusion 360 and have previously only worked in autodesk autocad.

In the Screencast I imported a 4" standard pipe from McMaster-Carr and using a simple sketch, cut a section from it.

I import my pipe sections and rename with the pipe length, enter the component, and then use the extrude or push-pull tool to set the length. That way the pipe lengths and quantities show up on the BOM table in the drawing. Splitting the pipe seems like a wasteful way to do it, since you will always have a chunk of pipe to delete or remove.
