How to create separate files for each component while importing assemblies from other CAD system.

Hi,

we are looking to migrate our whole CAD data to F360.

Our products are made of sub-assemblies where single parts (components) are re-used between projects.

Is there any way to automatically import assemblies from other CAD systems (an single assembly containing multiple parts) in a way, that in F360 will create not an single file containing components but an assembly-file containing linked components?

In other words I'd like the F360 to make single files for each part in imported assembly upon importing instead of making just one file with multiple components in it.

Right now after importing assembly I must save-as all components by hand and insert them into the design and position manually in their correct spot as the "Save as and Replace" is not available for non-linked components.

Hi @tszwarc,

Can you please tell me more which CAD data format you want to bring in Fusion 360.

Like .stl, .step..

Hi @tszwarc,

We should be able to bring the .CATProduct in fusion 360.

Upload, Select all the files(Parts & assemblies), then select the Main Assembly(in the below image shown in red)

This will take some time to translate from .CATProduct to fusion.

If you are planning to bring Solidworks (.sldprt, .sldasm) or Inventor (.ipt, iam), then Fusion 360 has designed AnyCAD.

Let me know if it works for you.

@dsouzasujay When an assembly is imported, all components are internal to that new FUiosn 360 assembly, they have not linked components. HOwever, I belive that is what the OP is asking for.

@tszwarc that is currently not possible.

That is not the point - I'm well aware of how to import Catia parts and assemblies into F360 - it's all well described here in forum and online documentation.

What I want is to have the F360 to import the Catia assembly and generate the single items within the file as separate, linked components.

This apparently does not work therefore this topic is dead.

Thanks for all your replies.
