how can I get a pattern on my object to 3d print

I can create an object (just a test block at the moment) and using the appearance command put a plastic pattern on it created from a photo , but when I send it to the slicer and print it it always comes out as a plain surface

is there any way to reproduce the appearance in fusion 360 on the 3d print

i have attached a photo of the kind of surface I want

i should say I am retired and just learning the cad and 3d printing to produce things for my own pleasure

many thanks

Hi

Thanks for posting. In this case you used Appearance material texture. It works as a cloth on your 3d object. It is not really creating that pattern on that 3d. Just for visual purpose it is used.

If you really want to 3d print this pattern, you must have a real 3d surface in your model as shown in the image.

Getting the texture in 3d surface for real is called "Displacement mapping"

I can remember, @TrippyLighting once created a video tutorial using Fusion and Blender to create this.

Might help!
