How can I create an edge in component?

Hello,

I have this component and I've extruded 3mm out and want to use the extra 3mm to create an edge to extrude up and create a wall around the object (see image for some reference).

I'm trying to make something with walls like these. 

How can I do this? What is the correct term for this procedure as well? Because searching by create edge I couldn't find anything.

Hi,

1. create an offset in the sketch and extrude this new profile.

2. use the "Thin Extrude" option directly on the body.
