Highlight or glare

Lately, I have been getting a bright spot on my models in some situations. I never noticed it before; either it is new or has become bigger and brighter. I have found options for shadows, ground reflections, etc. but not this.

Can it be turned off?

Hello @johnAMKDR ,

Could you please add a screenshot of the issue you are facing?

Thanks!

No, it cannot be turned off. You need to change your lighting.

If yoo can share your model and describe what you are trying to achieve we can provide more specific advice.

I have attached a file. The part was imported from SolidWorks; it seems to be Al 6061 and I have given it a satin steel appearance. I've tried some other appearances and they haven't worked well. The effect really pops up after using the FIT command.

You may want to demonstrate the effect in a screenshot or screencast so I can get a better understanding of what you are seeing.

I tried the screencast again.  Here is a screen clip of the effect:

Few things of note:

A flat prismatic object without any filleted edges is going to look incredibly boring and unrealistic, in the most sophisticated render engine.

The orientation of your part is odd.
The normal orientation is Z-UP and the HDRI light sources are oriented in reference to the Z-Up direction. So if you had a HDRI light source with a single top down light, it would shine down from the Z direction as I show in the screenshot:

The screenshot you are showing does not show a proper raytraced render but only the viewport preview render.

As such I find it difficult to determine what you are trying achieve.

Hi,

I am not interested in a rendering; I just want an uncluttered image of the part where the glare doesn't obscure other things I might be adding, like an offset plane.

There does seem to be a bit of rendering-like behavior as there must be a light source somewhere. I'd like to just turn it off, assuming that I could still see the part. I searched for "turn off preview render" but didn't find anything. I can sometimes get rid of it by panning or zooming, but that doesn't always work for the situation.

Before I did into this - I don't see the glare on my machine - do you see it?

Oh ... OOPS 😉

My bad. there is indeed a light source of sorts to make things in the viewport visible. That cannot really be turned off.

You can adjust the screen settings to "uncluttered" the viewport to a degree.

You could also enable component color cycling:

Not sure any of that helps, but its worth a try.

That's interesting. As I mentioned in the start, I've noticed this "lately". I thought it might be due to an update, or this particular part from Solidworks.

I see it on both of the computers I've used.

Right, I've tried different things in the environment and effects, but nothing really affects that bright spot.

Create a Screencast with the view orientation moving around.

Also toggle to Render and then back to Model Design.

Attach Link rather than attempting to embed.

I have seen this in other CAD programs where lights can be assigned in modeling, but I don't see a way to do that in Fusion, and in any case, I don't even see this issue with your file.

Here is link to a screencast. I panned the model around, then clicked FIT and the glare appears.

I rendered the part, then went back to the design function and the glare still pops up.

Ah, that was the key - I have never used FIT.  (I use a 3D Connexion device and my screen is always in motion).

Follow these instructions: Right click...

Thanks, that does the trick.

Still, it would be nice to have a switch to turn off the highlight. The options in the advanced appearance menu are kind of cool, but do we really need the warehouse image. The program might run a little faster with these suppressed.
