graphics display freezes but UI works

I've been using fusion for four days.  The last day or two I've been having a problem with the graphics display freezing.,  I don't know what term to use but I'm talking about the image of the model that you can pan, rotate, etc.  When that freezes the rest of the UI still responds properly, except for the view selector cube in the upper right.  When you hover over the cube you can see the cursor change but that's all.  It doesn't respond to any click.  I assume the parts that quick working use a different graphics mode.

When I restart the app it all works again.  The amount of time I can use the app has been decreasing.  It is now only a few minutes which makes the app useless.

I'm running windows 8.1 pro on a Dell latitude E6500 laptop.  The OS was installed from scratch recently.  The dell website says my drivers are the latest.

What should I do next?

Hi @mark

Thanks for posting! It looks like you are experiencing an issue in which the view cube stops working and your graphics display freezes. That is unfortunate.

We have seen some issues in which display and text scaling can cause this issue. Making sure that your display and text scaling is set to 100% by following the instructions below may help resolve this issue:

  • Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display
  • Change setting to 100%
  • Select Set custom text size (DPI)
  • Make sure the Custom DPI setting is set to 100%

I also wanted to include some general ideas that could help us find a root cause for this behavior, included below:

  • Remove or update old 3D connexion or Wacom drivers.
  • Ensure your video card is the dedicated GPU for your machine (power saver settings will turn off dedicated GPU while on battery). Use Graphics Diagnostic (in the ?Help menu upper right).
  • Ensure your graphics drivers are up-to-date
  • Turn off video effects.
  • Restart your machine.
  • Turn off any other persistent app that is always on when you are using Fusion.)
  • Exiting/entering Fullscreen when the application freezes
  • maximizing/minimizing window when the application freezes
  • Resize the Fusion window
  • View > Reset to default layout view

It is also possible that there was an error when Fusion 360 was recently updated. Does the issue continue to occur if you perform a clean uninstall and reinstall Fusion 360?

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions - I am happy to help. If none of this resolves the issue, please gather your diagnostic log files and attach them to this forum thread and we will continue troubleshooting.

Reinstalling the app fixed it.  I should have tried that first.

In case others run into this issue, uninstalling LightBulb (an app like Flux) seemed to fix the issue. These types of apps overlay a layer on the entire GUI to reduce blue light at night.

Happy modelling.

Running into this same problem now. Just started a week ago. I've been using Fusion on this computer for 2-3 years now. Everything is fine, but if I leave the program running, and walkaway, etc, when I come back the model is frozen on the screen. I can using the navigation tree, everything, just frozen image. Even if I open another file, the same stuck image remains.

Did a full re-install, no change.

Having the same issue since a week ago.... if my laptop locks when I'm away from it I have to restart Fusion.

Had to change power/sleep settings to avoid it. Did a full clean and re-install but still the same. Getting a bit annoying now!

Also having this issue, been using F360 for a few years without issue on this laptop but now if I leave it for a few minutes and then come back the "view cube" is frozen and I have to restart Fusion.  Tries changing sleep settings and a re-install without any fix.   Changing the text to 100% is not an option as the screen is 15in running 3200x1800.

Hi

Didn't have any of the DirectX options but adding the variables worked just great.  Been working all day including after the laptop has gone to sleep/hibernate as well as when the program has not been used for a bit.

Thanks for your help.
