GPU Recommendations for F360

I am building a new system and need to know if F360 does better with a graphics based or workstation based card?  I am looking at the RTX 2080 Super/Ti on the gaming side and the RTX Quadro 4000 on the workstation side.

Thanks in Advance!

Hi,

Fusion is focused on Direct X.
Hence the answer: RTX 2080

It doesn't particularly matter for Fusion 360 - unlike other CAD packages with primarily professional users, Fusion also has a significant hobbyist/consumer userbase, so we try to ensure that workstation-grade parts are not necessary to make the most of the experience. To add, we also have a macOS client, so we also support OpenGL and integrated graphics (I do a lot of my testing on Intel UHD 620 graphics, for example).

Accordingly, the consumer RTX line is quite sufficient (you can always grab Nvidia's Studio drivers if the Game Ready drivers prove unstable). To add, much of Fusion's workflows are single-threaded calculations (e.g. parametric edits updating all Timeline events that follow), so while a dedicated GPU will improve FPS with larger and more complex models, once you've met the recommended system specs I find that raw CPU clockspeed becomes the best return on investment.

Cool, thanks for the insight.  I will be running an i9-9900KF CPU with 32gb DDR4-3200 and an Evo Pro M.2 SSD.

Wow, try not to get any speeding tickets with that rig! 😁

Geez, Speedy Gonzales,

The RTX Series is overall solid (I use an RTX 2070) and the spec looks brilliant - far better than some of the specs I've seen today on the Inventor forum 🙂 If you need to save a buck or two you could go to an RTX 2070 TI unless you have massive assemblies but it depends if you need the GPU for anything else.

Fusion (and Inventor) really don't care for Quadros which is a benefit to our wallets.

My understanding [correct me, anyone] is that Quadro GPUs, like Radeon Pro, or Xeons and Ryzen Pro CPUs, or even just Windows 10 Enterprise vs Home/Pro, are mainly about support.

Yeah, there are some architectural and feature differences, but the bulk of it is drivers and validation for mission-critical work, and that's where the cost comes from - I think you can even opt to run Radeon gaming drivers on AMD's workstation cards, though it's not quite the same performance gain as a true gaming Radeon card. To that end, it's handy that Nvidia started offering Studio drivers for consumer cards - I get by with my RTX 2070 at home with Game Ready drivers without issue, but it's nice to have options!

The way it has been explained to me is that some platforms like Solidworks, Mastercam etc really need a Quadro based workstation card due to the level of detail and computations that happen in solid modeling vs refresh rate (I.e. gaming).  It has also been mentioned elsewhere that Directx vs OpenGL is a key difference..

here’s an interesting link in gpu performance in workstation roles.

Hi,

My experience is that Fusion's graphics system requirements are negligible compared to games and video editing.
