Generative design on academic license

Is the new Generative design functionality inside Fusion 360 available for the Ultimate version users with Academic license? Im currently teaching a generative design course with Rhino and my University has Fusion 360 installed on the campus workstations, they are running the latest April update but the generative design icon doesn't appear on the ribbon. If is not available for academic users, do you have some sort of trial available for teachers? I will like to evaluate it in order to convince my department on upgrading our license.

Hi @alejandro.gutierrezo

Thanks for posting! Generative design is currently only available for paid Fusion 360 Ultimate subscribers and there is not a version of generative design available for educational licenses at this time. I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause and hope to see generative design options rolled out to a wider audience in the future.

Is there any plan to rollout these features to users of educational licenses? I am a student and am greatly interested in learning how to use these new tools but because I'm living the life of a broke college student I cannot afford a paid ultimate license.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the response - at this time, you will need a paid subscription to Fusion 360 Ultimate to access generative design. While I hope that there will be a way for educational licenses to gain access in the future, I cannot confirm any plans for this at this time.

Hi Paul,

Where would one find the pricing on a site license for generative design for the academic community?

Thank you,

Jonathan

Hi @JFrey_WM,

At this time, Generative Design is accessed by purchasing a Fusion Ultimate license. The pricing model for Fusion 360 can be found here.

Thanks,

This is really a pity that I've followed generative design for months but still cannot use it.

Another restriction is, that's windows only.

I do understand that it is like $1,535.00 / year. It would be great if you can offer a little bit discount for the students. As the constrain design is becoming the revolution in a new world design; please contact me if you agree...  xD

It's not only about the yearly costs. Do you know that the calculations do
cost hundred of dollars, too?

No. It's like with the online rendering. They give a certain image size (compute time) away for free, but after that... And calculations for generativ designs are heavy. I can kind of understand why it's not for free.

BTW. Are you using an Apple computer? Generativ design is windows only (if I remember right).

@paul.clauss or @James.Youmatz; is this still the case as of the date of this posting? If so, the false promise of the Products & Services page under my account is pretty disappointing and should be removed. I spent hours trying to troubleshoot why it claims I have access and I can't access it.Products & Services accountProducts & Services account

That is weird, Generative for students also appeared on my Product and Services page, did Autodesk just granted us an academic license for generative design or is this a bug?

Oh thanks, I too was wondering what was the deal with Autodesk granting students generative design. I was looking for this extension everywhere on Fusion, but from what it appears it seems that only the trial models are available. Not 100% sure so don't quote me on that.
