Guys,

Got an odd problem with Fusion here.

Fusion starts up fine, displays the desktop then after a few seconds a window flashes in the backgroud and the Fusion desketop is replaced with the Fusion 360 banner but with a blank rectangle in the middle. This window can only be removed by using EndTask in Task Manager. When End Task is used a pop up is revealed that (very briefly - as the process is being terminated) mentions internet connectivity as an issue (even though Fusion logged in OK and "the internet" works fine for everything other than, apparently, Fusion)

If I launch Fusion from the command line, the last message displayed is "<DNS Server> cannot find Localhost: No Such Domain" which strikes me as weird.

In the logs there are a few http "503 server is at capacity" errors from compute.api.autodesk.com (approximately - that's from memory. The logs are attached)

Yes we do have a proxy; no we cant get rid of it.

Yes we do have a firewall; no we can't easily make any exceptions as it is not a site firewall, it is a county facility and managed by the local authority.

Yes we are using the latest version of Fusion (downloaded today)

Yes it is a Lab install (though with one workstation in the lab its hard to call it a lab!)

Yes Windows is up to date (Windows 10 Edu 22h2)

Yes we get the same results regardless of the method used to start Fusion (Start menu, Launcher or command line)

Fusion360 -d collects the logs after the fusion desktop is displayed but before Fusion locks up, so a knowledgable person might have to look in logs referring to times before  2023-02-07 14:00 to get a compete picture.

Any hints or tips greatfully received.

@itservicesSWAG8 Logs shows that you are on build 2.0.4126 which is from five years back. We do not support older versions for Fusion 360. Our current build is 2.0.15299.

It would be good to know from where you downloaded the installer.

@itservicesSWAG8 Thank you for sharing log file.
Based on log file, you network connection won't able to reach services.
Hope below document helps to solve services connection issue.

Interesting... I downloaded the installer from the Autodesk Edu download page at 0845 yesterday because one problem I knew with the workstation was that it hadn't been updated in rather a long time so to rule that out as a cause of the problem I figured updating would be a good idea.

FWIW the chesksum of the file I downloaded is

Algorithm : SHA256
Hash : ED138B9CE8775A018449B01976F1CBD33F699F8E8263EE90A5E0CB8825F1B13A

fusion 360 admin install.exe --process update

this gave a message "sorry to see you go" and apparently uninstalled Fusion 360. So I then

fusion 360 admin install.exe --globalinstall

and then

fusion 360 admin install.exe --process uninstall --purge-incomplete

so something in that list of things managed to screw up the version I guess.

How do you suggest managing a complete uninstall and re-install so that the correct version number is installed?

Well that document is interesting - not least because I can't launch the service utility by any of the methods listed... but that may be because its a really old version of Fusion360 (see post above for details)

I will attempt to ge a new version installed and try the ServiceUtil command line switch again.

Guys

In case anyone wants to have a look - Fusion decided to give a  proper error window just now when I got the oputput from Fusion360 -serviceutil and the webpage displayed back from errorreport.autodesk.com provides the following:

Error report number 337583587

So a complete uninstall....

--process uninstall

then

Delete all the Autodesk/Fusion360 folders in users/appdata

And when you run a parameterless (well apart from -globalinstall) you get the new version of Fusion installed.

Having finally got a current version of Fusion installed, I see form the ServiceUtil network diagnostics that for some random reason https://www.mcmaster.com/shell.aspx is blocked. Everything else has a green tick.

I have raised a ticket with our network controllers and we will see what they can do...

Ok - so the firewall has been adjusted and Fusion now starts.... except it insists it s a trial (not educational) license; when I log in to Autodesk to check it says

"Hi itservices,

Your educational access to Autodesk products is valid through February 7, 2024"
