Fusion runs very slowly on my computer

Hello,

Fusion runs very slowly on my computer. How can I improve its performance?

Here are my computer specifications:

  • CPU: 3.1 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4 GB
  • Memory: 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
  • iMac model: Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020

  • OS: MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1

I have already followed the official recommendations to reduce display effects and limit drawing settings, but it’s still very slow. The issue is especially pronounced when entering the DRAWING module—even with simple designs, it becomes unbearably slow.

It’s worth noting that this lag did not exist a few months ago. The problem started appearing after multiple software updates.

Could you please advise me on how to improve this? Thank you!

Thanks for posting a good video showing in real-time your issue. How old is the Mac? Which model? My only suggestion is I see in the dock (on the side of your capture) you have a HEAP of open Apps....What happens if you kill all those and just run Fusion from a fresh reboot with nothing but Fusion running?

Fusion runs slowly on all computers. It is built on an core that is decades old and can't leverage GPU or multi CPU effectively.

The i5 is not helping maters, but even on modern Apple Silicon, the results will not be too much better. The Apple port of this software has always been bad. It does not follow Apple best practices in several critical areas, from instal method and location to screen and resource hijacking, etc.

Hi Warmingup1953, thanks for your reply.

My iMac model is : Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020 OS: Sequoia 15.1.1.

I have tried closing idle applications and running only Fusion, but the result is still the same as shown in the video—very slow.

Hi beananimal, thanks for your reply.

Oh, I’m very disappointed to see your response.
However, I have tried running Fusion on a Windows computer with the following hardware specifications:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • Graphics Card: Radeon RX 5500 XT
  • Motherboard: B550M DS3H
  • Memory: 32GB
  • OS: Windows 11

Surprisingly, the same document runs very smoothly on this setup, without any lagging issues.

I have no used F360 on a Windows machine in a decade. The performance on Mac is not great. I have a Mac Mini i7, 32GB, MacPro (2013) WITH 128GB RAM and a Brand New MB Pro with 64GB - Not impressed with speed on any of them.

I did not watch your video, but the software itself is a mess (at least in my opinion). Without getting into the weeds, Clock speed is more important than cores. F360 is primarily single threaded (most similar packages are). I think toolpaths and some other manufacturing aspects may be multithreaded. Rendering, (both in model and rendering view) are single threaded. GPU support will vary.

Hi beananimal, thanks for your reply.

I'm very glad you shared your experience with me—it’s incredibly valuable and much appreciated.
To ensure a smooth experience with Fusion, I feel I’ll eventually need to replace my iMac with a Windows computer equipped with an NVIDIA graphics card, as the official documentation indicates strong support for NVIDIA cards.

If this is a primary use application, that may not be a bad idea. I loathe Windows (gasp, i am a Microsoft Parterner) but you have to do what you have to do to get performance.

Thank you all for your responses.

It’s clear to me now that the main issue lies with my iMac. While it might be due to poor optimization of F360 for running on iMac, I need to make a choice that works best for me.

I tested running F360 on another Windows computer, and it was very smooth with no lag issues at all.

Oh my, I miss the experience of using software so smoothly.

Goodbye, and thank you all!
