Fusion Really Slow on Processing Actions & Saves?

Hey folks, apologies for this, but I'm struggling to run this one down & our IT Team can't really help.

So, I'm running a machine built to run CAD at our company, which exceeds F360's specs by quite a margin;

Xeon E3-1270 @ 38Ghz / 32Gb RAM / x64 / Quadro P4000

Now, its been a while since I last built a PC, but this unit is only a couple of years old or so, & I'm pretty sure it's up to snuff, it certainly has been for F360 for the whole of that time.

However.

Over the last few months I find Fusion hanging over really inane, stupid things. Hit save. Hangs. For upwards of ten minutes.

Basic actions such as Sweep, you're hanging.

Just, everything is a "press button. Wait" deal. It is incredibly frustrating. Its on every job, every model, whether complex or simple. It also seems intermittent; sometimes I'm dealing with it for hours, others its a blip & a little later you're good.

My best bet is that, Fusion being Cloud Based, & Saves being particularly noticeable, it has something to do with connection. But, almost every Action/Command is also hanging, it does it whether working from my personal machine at home, or the work beast.

Ultimately, it clears itself, but I can't be productive asking Fusion to do something, waiting ten minutes or more, then repeat. If nothing else I'm going to pass out from overly furious angry eye twitches.

What I'm wondering is;

  1. Can someone confirm I'm not crazy & this machine should be fine to run Fusion (it always has been before, I can't see Fusion having changed so much that it suddenly isn't!).
  2. Can anyone suggest whether this sounds like Connection Issues, or if that just isn't likely (I mean, I would hope every Command I make isn't being routed to a server! Saves I get, but Extrude?)
  3. Has anyone got any ideas that might narrow it down?

I'm going to try "working offline" see what happens then, I am perfectly willing to admit ignorance in all sorts of things, but I feel like I'm missing something & my thinking it might be Connection Issues is itself ignorant!

Thanks folks!

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

the symptoms you describe sound like you are working with large designs.  It is a good test to try offline, but I suspect it will not significantly change the behavior you see.  I know you said the same thing happens with simple designs, but the definition of simple is variable.  Can you share one of the simple designs here so we can take a look?

Thank you both for your replies!

So, given the nature of our work, there isn't a lot of sharing I can do. But I will see if I can find something. I fully appreciate that without example files, it might be difficult to help, I'm really trying to narrow down my thoughts on the issue, so I can give our IT team somewhere to go, they're not CAD experienced & I am pretty much in charge of the business CAD - my hope was that it might actually be connection issues, as this is something that affects us from time to time, & is an easy thing to explore, if I can be fairly confident - if not, I'm sort of asking them as open ended a question as my original post could be!

I did try Working Offline. Results were... Inconclusive. I then stepped out of the office for a few hours to handle something, came back & working online was suddenly fine. Then, a few hours later, in the Drawing Workspace, the hangs are back!

Jeff - you mentioned the relativity of "simple" in relation to a Fusion model, thinking about it, I can certainly see what you mean; you may not have many bodies, but if your timeline is massive, & if Fusion is having to check back through it for any reason, that could easily lead to the hangs I guess.

I'll see if I can find something I can share. I would say that the issue seems to transcend any specific model, & is thusly a lot harder to pin down, but I very much appreciate your time & insight, I'll try to be actually helpful & find you something to look at!

...also, are you using a 3D Connexion Device?

If so, try unplugging - does behavior return to normal?

Yes?  Then plug back in and Calibrate.
