Fusion "Running" in a Black Window

Fusion "Running" in a Black Window

Anonymous
Not applicable

About 24 hours ago, on Wednesday, May 5, Fusion aborted loading. The screen with the login challenge starts to appear, but then turns black. Not the computer screen, but the window in which Fusion is running. Other loaded programs continue running as normal. Usually, blackness means Fusion is working on something in the background and the interface eventually returns, but not this time. I waited for hours, but nothing else happened, Health.Fusion.com reports that Fusion is working normally, so it looks like it might be a local problem. Has anyone else experienced this? And what can I do to get Fusion working again?

Hello @Anonymous ,

Sorry for the issues you are facing, can you please post a quick screencast video of the issue you are facing?

We had a Black screen issue which we solved recently.

Is this the issue you are facing?

Thanks for the response, Mohammed,

I do not have screencast software, but even if I did there would be almost nothing to show. The splash screen displays, and the the next window up, which is the one where the users enters his/her username and password, is simply black. The window can be resized, moved, and closed, but I don't think those are Fusion functions.

If, as I suspect, the graphics for the splash screen are stored locally, and the problem occurs before the log-in screen loads, the problem might be that Fusion's attempt to access the Internet has been interrupted. You can see in the attached screen shot there is nothing in the window. Does Fusion make calls to the API in other Microsoft programs like Edge? (Hint: never depend on anyone else's software).

I'm running Windows 10 on a relatively new Dell  desktop computer. My graphics are Intel integrated on the motherboard. Th graphics drivers are updated automatically, so I should have the latest version.

Thanks for your assistance.

I downloaded the screencast program and just a few minutes ago made my first attempt to use it. To my surprise, no black screen this time, but the only things that appeared were the basic browser controls in the upper left of the window and the view cube in the upper right. There was a heavy black bar across the top and another smaller one at the bottom left where the timeline usually is. After 15 minutes I shut off the recorder because nothing else was happening. I took a screen shot to upload, but the screen shot displayed only a full, white window without the browser controls, the view cube, or the black areas of the window showing.

The screencast program required me to log in before I could use it, so when I attempted to load and record Fusion 360 for you I was already logged in, which had not been the case previously. Also, my hard disc light came on and remained on the entire time until I shut down screencast and then the Fusion window. When screencast was turned off, the title bar on the window changed to show that Fusion was "not responding."

After all of this I made another attempt to load Fusion and got exactly the same results as I just described, so something has happened since I first wrote. I waited another ten minutes just in case, but shut the program down after that. No "not responding" message this time. I think we can rule out any interference from the screencast.

I wish I could give you more information, but it's been hard to come by. I hope you can help me resolve this problem. I have months and months worth of work lost in the cloud, and I really need to get going again.

Many thanks!

Mohammed--

Browsing through the sticky notes in the support forum I came across the OPEN_GL "solution" and followed it. It didn't work. The load stalled, and I got a notice that I had to install openGL 2.0 or higher. I had windows search for it and learned that all my drivers are up to date. My graphics driver is Intel UHD graphics 630.

I deleted the variable and now the problem is as it was before, so at least I'm no worse off. The icons are active under the blacked-out menu bar, but I must say that trying to use Fusion under these conditions would result in mighty long day! :-0

The open GL 2.0 standard is really old; goes back to at least 2015. Most of the instructions for installing it are for Windows 7 and 8. This is the kind of thing I really fear happening, especially if other fixes are coming in silent updates. For someone who's not particularly computer savvy, like me, it could create a nightmare. Going into my 4th week without Fusion, and I'm starting to develop a nervous twitch.

Any further developments for this problem?

Well, no one is answering my previous posts, so I thought I'd send this one and see who else doesn't answer it. I decided that my last recourse might be a clean uninstall and a complete reinstall of the program. I was delighted to discover that AutoDesk now has an automated uninstall cleaner, so I downloaded the file and ran it. I immediately got the screen for the VLC media player, which cheerfully announced that it could not identify my audio codec. Why, oh why, is this appearing, and what am I supposed to do next? I throw my hands in the air. I surrender! I give up!! I express exasperation!!!

I have this issue pretty-much every time I run fusion now. I typically run in full-screen on my Mac. So new empty versions of Fusion spawn as a new fullscreen desktop. I currently have one instance of Fusion, and two instances of anti-fusion running. It looks like this:

I haven't identified anything that always triggers it, but it often seems triggered by the spawning of dialogue windows (file uploads or generative design runs, for example). Other times it is triggered by an operation in the design workspace that doesn't spawn anything. Black windows that are active (like a generative design window I currently have running) can be viewed if I move back to that screen and give it focus. Here's the black screen on the far right if I move to it:

The moment it loses focus it goes black however. The black desktop to its left is just black, focus or not. The black generative design screen will disappear entirely when that job is finished. At least usually. These black screens don't seem to spawn additional processes (although I haven't looked at this in too much detail). They don't seem to make anything run slower, just add blank windows/desktops.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one having problems. Although much of what you're experiencing isn't what I'm experiencing, the net result is the same; it's almost impossible to do any work this way or save it reliably. It sounds like you are at least able to sign in. I never get that far on loading, although the program seems to know my license class, and it will, after much fussing and some lucky mouse clicks, allow me to see my editable drawings.

Going into my fifth week of this now, and what I don't understand is the curious silence from Autodesk. I know mine's a non-commercial free license, but if I were a company that had all its programs running in the cloud, if even one licensee could not access his files, I'd have all hands on deck. It's a serious problem.

It never occurred to me to load a second instance of Fusion, so I tried to just now. The result was about the same, I'm afraid. Nothing to do but wait for now and try to talk myself out of installing FreeCad.
