Fusion freezes when modifying a dxf file

Hi, I've got a well resourced Mac (16gb ram, 4gb video, SSD drive, etc.). When I import the attached dxf file it basically freezes F360 any time I try to do anything with it. Sometimes it freezes forever and I have to force quit the app and restart. It's making it impossible to work with. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for optimizing dxf files like this. I plan to engrave it -- I'm using it to create a gcode file for a CNC router. I've spent an hour looking through forums to see if there was a match to what I'm seeing. There were a few suggestions that I tried, to no avail.

Hi,

I have converted the profiles into arcs and reduced the number of control points.

This is a pretty complex DXF.  There are over 4,000 curves in this file, and more than that number of points.  Fusion imports a DXF as a sketch, so this represents a very complex sketch (imagine sitting there and creating a sketch with over 4,000 lines/arcs...).

So, it depends on what you are trying to do with it.  You say you want to create toolpaths for this.  Is that the main operation that is causing the slow operation?  (note:  I doubt that any operation will cause a "forever" freeze - they will eventually finish).  I don't have any direct recommendations on improving toolpaths, but if you are trying to edit this sketch, there are a couple of things you can do:

  1. Turn off Profiles:

  2. "Fix" all the sketch geometry.  This removes all those curves from the solve process.  Edit the sketch, window select everything, and Fix it:

If you do want to edit any part of the sketch, just select and Un-Fix it.

Thank you @g-andresen and @jeff_strater ! I genuinely appreciate the help. Unfortunately the file is still unusably slow, and what I'm deducing is that Fusion 360 just may not be the right tool for such design files. It's too bad that the software can't just convert the shape into line elements or something, discarding all of the extraneous information. I had planned to put the dxf on and oval, and then extrude a 1" offset frame around it and the image itself (meaning raise the art from the background by carving away the background vs engraving out the art / letters [that I had converted to text outlines]). Either way, thanks again for your time - I appreciate it.
