Fusion freezes/hangs in Drawing Mode while editing tolerance

This issue has happened three times now within the past week.

While in Drawing Mode, I am editing the options for a measurement ("Dimension" dialog) and specifying a symmetrical tolerance.  When I click Close to accept my tolerance setting, on some occasions nothing happens, and Fusion 360 becomes unresponsive to any key-presses or clicks. I have to kill Fusion with Task Manager.  I have been able to edit several other tolerances, but this has happened maybe 1-5% of the times when I am using the Dimension dialog in the past week.  It has happened on different files, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with a specific project.  The drawings in question are not very complex at all.

I saw a similar looking issue reported two weeks ago from someone editing their drawing scale.  The result that person had was the same, but the trigger was different.  So I'm not sure if it is the same issue.

This is on Windows 10, with Fusion 360 version 2.0.8407

On this most recent crash, I was able to get a recent auto-recover file.  But on the prior two crashes, there were no auto-recover files in the CrashRecovery folder for some reason, and I lost 1+ hours of work each time.  It would be nice to get this issue resolved to avoid the hassle and lost work.

This freeze just happened for a fourth time.

I edited the value of my tolerance, and when I went to hit Close, nothing happened, and Fusion is unresponsive.

The screenshot shows that my edit was not reflected in the drawing yet, so it seems to have frozen between the time I entered the new value in the dialog, and the time that it would have updated the drawing.

Hello @mkr5

Thank you for reporting the issue and we are sorry that you are facing the hanging of Fusion 360. Can you please share the f2d file and some information regarding which tolerance values when changed are causing the trouble?

Thank you,

Best Regards

Hi @rohit.bapat ,

Thanks for your offer to look into this.

Here's a link to the f2d file:  https://a360.co/2M3OYIm

I'll PM you the password.

The tolerance that I was editing is shown in my screenshot on my prior post in this thread.  I just tried editing it about 20 times in a row, and it didn't crash.  My guess is that Fusion is doing something else at the same time that is causing a conflict.  Maybe the auto-save.  Maybe something else.  Please let me know if there is a log file or something that I can check when this freeze happens again.

Thanks,

Marcus

I have had this same problem happen to me twice today and its a very frustrating problem.

The program doesn't register with windows as being non-responsive. In fact when I try and close the programs asks if I want to save, however it won't actually save.

I've posted before about the same problem occurring when renumbering balloons.

Hi

I'm also currently having this issue. Happened three times now.

Fusion 360 completely unresponsive, has to be end-tasked.

On both occasions happened while editing tolerance limit values.

On all occasions happened when working with multiple drawing sheets.

Don't know if it relevant but whenever I add additional drawing sheets to an existing drawing file by selecting 'create drawing' of a component from the design environment, I always get a warning message at the point when it switches to the drawing environment, something like: 'version mismatch, update to latest version to continue with view placement'. I even get this message immediately after  updating to latest version of Fusion. It always allows me to continue with the view placement anyway.

here are a couple of screen shots while frozen. Diagnostic log file attached.

Just had this happen to me as well, only it was during a simple text edit.

All work lost.

I'm also experiencing this issue, I have experienced it in the past but assumed it had been resolved as it hasn't occurred I would like to say in the last 12 months.

Full freeze when clicking close after adding a Deviation tolerance to a dimension in the drawing workspace.

End program in task manager and re-open fusion.....

I had this problem randomly happen in the last 2 year or so. It only happens when I edit the ''limit'' tolerances. I am disappointed but nor surprised to see that this issue is part of the long list of unresolved bug that Fusion 360 is cumulating recently. It's been 3 years since the first post on this thread and nothing was done to resolve this issue.

I don't know what happened in the last few years but this software is a sinking ship.

It's not just tolerances, it can happen with renumbering as well, and it does it all the time.

Are you a Windows user? I am, and suspect it's related to the platform.

I'm super annoyed that this is continuing, as it costs me a lot of downtime.  That said I have to give the Fusion development team a lot of credit for having performed so many other updates to the drawing platform and being really responsive.   I can only name a few persistent problems, this being one of them.

If you want to see a real sinking ship try working with Autodesk's Advance Steel. Use that for a while and search forums for help with all the persistent bugs and you'll understand the true meaning of pain.  😆

Yes I am a Windows user. And you are right, it's not only with the tolerances but from what I saw it's like 80% of the time.

Also, thanks for the tip, I'll stay away from Autodesk's Advance Steel!

This happens to me consistently every time I open a drawing or try to go into drawing mode, but only on a specific PC (Win 10) , switching to a different laptop ( Win 11) it works perfectly, all on the same account

the PC in question is on the older side but it has 20GB RAM and an I7 core with an old but decent GPU

I am having this issue since a year now , do you guys find any solution for this problem ?
I use 3 seats of fusion, 2 on my workstation and 1 on my laptop.
This issue happens in all my devices invariably

Workstations have 32 Gb ram , Xeon e6 processors, 2 gb amd firepro graphics, 256Gb ssd as primary storage
Laptop is an i5, with 8 gb RAM and 512Gb SSD as primary storage.
Design, Manufacture and other workspaces are fine.
BUT WHEN I EDIT A TOLERANCE / TYPE A WORD, the drawing workspace seem to freeze up.
