OK so I've been on vacation...

BTW my internet access here is fine and Autodesk thinks its services are running...also https services are running fine on this machine.

REALLY?

 

FUSION 360 clearly isn't a product for professional use.

Thanks for your response. In the meantime I discovered this and preformed the "Refresh the Browser cache" central section steps:

Now Fusion will start without closing itself down again (great), but reports this:

And I can't see any of my design data even though I'm sure my internet access is good.

 

A nonsense morning - 1/2 day wasted so far.

@alan_ambrose On the same article that you have referenced, please run the Reset Fusion and that should help.
