Fusion 360 won't launch after quitting program

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am running Fusion 360 on a Mac OS 10.13.6

After I quit Fusion, when I try to relaunch it nothing happens. It's not like it tries to launch then quits, it won't launch at all. You click the Fusion 360 icon and nothing. The only way to fix it seems to re-install, but the problem keeps happening. Help please.

Could it be something to do with the shortcuts? When you are in a situation like this, would launching from say that spotlight, launch the application?

I have tried launching it from the shortcut, directly in the applications folder, and launchpad. Same result. Nothing.

I have completely un-installed the program using the un-installer as well as deleting all support files in the library (ie. preferences etc) and then doing a clean install. The program then works, but then the problem show up again.

FYI, I am installing the latest version the Autodesk website.

This is very interesting. The next time you have a successful launch can you go to Help-> Support and diagnostics ->Diagnostics log files and send the zip file that is created? Want to see if the log files tell us anything.

When you are stuck, I assume you have already tried a re-start of the machine (rather than an uninstall/reinstall).Also, is it the first close of Fusion that puts it in this bad state?

I'm having the same issue. The first time Fusion 360 is run after install, it launches correctly. After I quit Fusion 360, the app will not launch again. I have to reinstall the app to get it to launch correctly. This happens after the first time Fusion 360 has been run. Suggestions appreciated.

@grayson.whitman Are you on Mac/Windows? Any multi monitor? If so can you disconnect one monitor and work on the main monitor and see if that makes a difference?

IF you are on a Mac, are you launching Fusion from a short cut? Can you launch it from the launch pad or spotlight and see if there is a difference?

Can you also send us your log files from Help -> Support and diagnostics -> Diagnostic log files

MacOS (10.15.7) laptop with no external monitors connected. Launching app from within Applications and not a shortcut. When I try to launch, the app icon in dock bounces once. Same if I try to launch from within Launchpad. Tried launching from Spotlight, per your suggestion, and received error "The application Autodesk Fusion 360 can't be opened." Restarting doesn't help. Will reinstall and then send you the diagnostic log in just a minute. Thanks for your quick response.

Attached are the log files.

Another thing of note... Before uninstalling, I launched the installer on the "Autodesk Client Downloader" disk image. It recognized there was an installed copy on the computer and asked if I wanted to launch it. I select yes, and it launched correctly. That seems like a helpful clue?

So, it looks like the version the installer in launching is located in the User's Applications Folder. If I launch from that folder it seems to be working. I'd prefer it be kept inside the /Applications rather than ~Applications. Can I just move the app and have it work?

@grayson.whitman Unfortunately no. You can create a short cut from the folder and then you should be all good from that point on.
