Fusion 360 v2.0.12157 crashes when opening files saved in v2.0.11894

This morning, one of my computers upgraded Fusion 360 to the latest 2.0.12157 version.  Since that has happened I cannot open some files I have saved yesterday using version 2.0.11894 as Fusion 360 immediately crashes/closes with no crash report window popping up.  I have tried opening previous versions of the files which would have been saved by a version earlier than 2.0.11894.  I am, however, able to open files in 2.0.12157 that were last saved in a version prior to 2.0.11894.  I have tried completely uninstalling Fusion 360 from this computer, using the Fusion 360 cleaner, rebooting, and then re-installing Fusion 360 and that does not allow me to open these files, either.  I tried on another computer that was still running 2.0.11894 and I could still open the files.  I upgraded Fusion 360 on that computer and can no longer open the files as well.  As another test, I downloaded a .f3d from A360 website and imported it into Fusion 360 on a 2.0.12157 computer and Fusion 360 crashes immediately when I try to open that file as well.  Currently I can only open these files from one computer left that is running 2.0.11894.

@bseibenick Any change these have manufacturing data in them? If so we did have a very similar issue that we solved for another customer as below:(this was not specific to files saved in the previous version though)

"we could get the toolpath parameters open using the drop-down menu > Drilling. Then saw that one of the user’s default feeds and speeds parameters was an error. reset to System default, set as user default. Then the issue was resolved"

Here is another thread with similar issue that the customer solved - https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/fusion-crashes-as-soon-as-i-try-to-open-a-file/m-p...

Would you also mind sharing one of these files or able to invite me into your project that has these files with the issue? rajDOTkumarDOTilanchelianATautodeskDOTcom is my email ID. You can either share link or invite me if that is possible.

Log files from this machine may also help to see what could be happening.

Raj, yes, these files contain manufacturing data.  I used the Fusion 360 cleaner to uninstall.  Does that clear the registry files?  I didn't notice having to reset any settings once re-installed, though.

I added you to the project.  One file in specific I am having issues with is called "belt guide base mod1".

If there are instructions to fully clean the system as indicated in the post you shared could you please pass those along and I will try that as well?

Thanks!

@bseibenick Thank you for inviting me into the project. I was able to successfully open the particular file you mentioned (and tried a few others) successfully on a Mac machine and windows 10 machine.

So something that that is machine specific is causing this. Sort of good news is that the files are instant.

Now that I opened this on another machine you can try a couple of things:

1. On the machine you Arte having this problem, log out/close Fusion (Restart machine - not necessary but just calling it out here) , Log back in and it should start downloading any missing cache and I was to say this time it should work.

2. If the above does not then, a clean uninstaller could work .

If none of this works, we can dig deeper to see what is happening on the machine.

I tried this process on two different machines with the same result.  The only slight progress I was able to make was after signing out, running the clean uninstaller, reinstalling, logging back in and then resetting my preferences to default I was able to open the file indicated above.  The file opened in design mode however as soon as I flipped to manufacturing mode Fusion closed/crashed on both machines.  I am still able to open the file on the one computer I have which is still running the older version.  When you opened the file did were you able to look at the toolpaths, etc?

@bseibenick I have no problems switching to the manufacturing workspace on the file using the pallets Fusion. A lot of toolpahts showed up as no tool paths but did not crash for me.

Could it be any particular Manufacturing preferences or defaults that I causing this? Between the older machine with this build and the new build, can you see any difference in preferences or any defaults?

No, I cannot see any differences in the settings...plus I reset settings to defaults on two of my three machines.

I have a feeling that there is some corrupt setting that got sync'd to my Autodesk account.  As a test I created a new autodesk account with a different email, assigned my other Fusion 360 license to that account, logged out of Fusion 360 as my 'normal' account and logged in with the 'new' account.  I then tried to open the file and flip to the manufacturing view and everything worked fine.

As a final test, I installed Fusion on a computer that has never had Fusion installed on it before, logged in with my normal account, opened the file, flipped to manufacturing mode and Fusion crashed.

So at this point I have two computers which I have upgraded Fusion on, one computer with Fusion installed for the first time and one computer with the older version of Fusion.  With my 'normal' account Fusion will crash on the first three if I flip to the manufacturing mode on one of these files however is fine when I use the 'new' account.  The computer with the old version of Fusion is still fine, but I am guessing that is because Fusion hasn't been closed and reopened it hasn't pulled whatever account setting from the Autodesk server that is causing this issue

I hope this help narrow down what is going on.

Thanks,

Brian

@bseibenick Thank you for running those variations. Which of the data that is corrupted on sync is now the one to find out.

I am going to look into this a little more with more engineers internally. In the mean time can you prelate try this solution to see if it helps?

Unfortunately turning off the in-process stock generation did not resolve the issue.

I'm seeing the same problem with my account.  All was good until the latest upgrade.  Very interested in how this is resolved as I'm dead in the water here.

@bseibenick Can you try signing-in under the affected account and creating various toolpath types (just in a blank file with default parameters). I'm curious if any of these cause Fusion to close for you...

Yes, so I created a sketch on the top plane with a 2x2" rectangle, then I extruded the sketch up 1" in z+ to make a box.  I then flipped to Manufacturing mode, created a generic setup taking all the defaults.  I was able to add a face operation and a 2d adaptive operation just fine.  As soon as I grabbed a 2d contour Fusion crashed.  To verify, I started again but this time after I created the setup I immediately selected 2d contour and again Fusion crashed.  I had not even saved the file at this point (I tried after, saving the file first didn't change anything).  This is with Fusion set for all defaults in the preferences window.

As an update, I was able to select every tool path under 2D, 3D, Drilling and multi axis...with the exception of 2D Contour.  Just selecting that from the 2d dropdown menu immediately closes Fusion.  It also appears that the files that immediately crash Fusion upon opening are ones that contain a 2D contour in them AND the file was saved in Manufacture mode active.

@bseibenick Thanks for checking that and getting back to me. Can you try the following , and let me know if this resolves the issue:

  1. Open a 2D contour toolpath in a blank file on the device that has not updated yet.
  2. For each parameter: Reset to System Default, and then Save as User Default.
  3. OK
  4. Close Fusion on that device
  5. Open Fusion on an updated device
  6. Try creating a 2D contour toolpath, and opening the affected files.

Unfortunately, not only did that not work, but now when I open up Fusion on the device that had the previous version, the close caused it to install the update and now that machine is having the same issue and now I can't get into my files which contain 2d contours.  FYI, this now puts me at a standstill.

My problem is almost identical to @bseibenick, except instead of crashing upon opening 2D contour, I crash on 3D ramp.

@bseibenick I am getting a couple more of our engineers involved to help out. I see others posting on the same. We will work to see what is the root cause for user parameters to get corrupt.

Would you be available for a video share call? Is so I can share a zoom session and look at this.

Yes, this is now critical for me so I will make myself available for a video session.

@bseibenick Are you still able to open the affected files from the other autodesk sign-in (like you had previously tested)? I think that would be the best workaround in the meantime.

While that would work, then I still have someone else who cannot be using Fusion as I have to take their license when doing this.  I also will need to somehow export/import all of my CAM templates and post processors from the normal account to the temporary account.  None that seems like a very quick process.  I also only have one license of the manufacturing extension.  Is is possibly to transfer that over and then back?

When do you expect a resolution to this as unfortunately none of the above is time that I can bill a customer for.

I'm sorry but this is getting pretty frustrating.  Had I realized that closing and re-opening Fusion the other day would have caused this much chaos I would have not done it.

Thanks,

Brian
