Fusion 360 freezes when opening the Tool Library and the Library does not appear

At this time there is no fix available. And the bug can be encountered with and without the audio drivers.

- I have posted down some threads related to this issue

- This thread was created to help other people to easily find an explanation on why fusion360 freezes when having more than one monitor connected.

The issue happens when fusion360 is started in the external monitor due to the fact that the monitor is not physically connected straight to the dedicated graphics card. Usually happens because the integrated graphics card (graphics card integrated to the motherboard) is physically connected to that port (HDMI / DP / mDP, etc). So when started fusion360 and the application is shown on that external monitor it freezes instantly not even allowing the user to change any configuration on the application. This also happens when the Tools Library is opened in the external monitor, it also freezes even if fusion360 window is on the other primary monitor.

A easy fix reported is to disconnect the external monitor cable and open fusion 360 or the library so that they will be forced to open in the primary monitor. Then you can reconnect the monitor and drag fusion360 to the other monitor. Just never change the tools library to the external monitor, otherwise you will face this issue as soon as you open it again. The fix is quite easy and just have to keep that in mind. If freeze again, just kill fusion360 and repeat those steps above again.

If you are a fusion360 developer, please share some details on which technologies have you implemented on the new tool library preview (or what changed) so other developers around the world can give suggestions on what might be happening, after all, nobody knows everything.. that's human. And beside of that, this issue has remained unsolved for many years. A temporary fix would be opening the tool library always in the main display (and fusion360 also). So users would have to move them to the external display if desired. This would avoid users from getting extremely frustrated. Like me, that lost about 2 entire days trying to understand why my fusion360 suddenly started crashing from nowhere after the last update. (which I quite don't understand yet) but solved by always starting it on my laptop display then moving it back to the external 4K display connected to the mDP port (which is connected to my gtx1080 and not my internal graphics and I quite don't understand why this does happen now)

Hi -

Thanks for posting.

Is this something that's still happening for you? On Windows?

A few things:

1) We did have this sort of problem for a while, beginning early this year. This summer (not sure the exact timing), we did ship an update that should have resolved this -- certainly for the tool library.

2) I just tested with a 3-monitor configuration that I have available, and Fusion properly pulled the Tool Library window onto the primary if the monitor that it had been most recently closed on is not available.

3) If you do happen to encounter this sort of issue -- with Fusion or other apps -- another way to fix it is the Alt-Space key combination, which should bring up a small context menu, with which you can pull the window back into view, without having to actually connect another monitor.

Thanks,

  Jeff

I'm still getting this issue on Windows 10 Pro Build 19042 on a laptop.

One workaround, but still buggy, is to make the external monitor the primary display by checking "Make this my main display" under the Windows Display Settings. When moving Fusion360 back to the laptop display; it will seem to work, but eventually freezes up depending on the actions used inside of Fusion360.

I still am having this issue (windows 10 laptop to an external monitor).

Has anyone found a good workaround? I am still using the inconvenient method of disconnecting every time I launch and use tool libraries.

I had this issue, at the time i didnt connect that the two screens i had were at different resolutions. One was 1440pp, the other was 1080p. Since upgrading the 1080pp, the problem has disappeared. Seems to occur when mix res screens are operating. Separately, my workaround was to disable the slave screen, start the program, and then re-enable the screen.
