Fusion 360 freeze after unlocking workstation

PreciseBio

If fusion 360 is active and the system is locked (due to inactivity or user locks it), the view and orientation cube is not responsive after unlocking the workstation.

It happens every time to me, no matter if there was an open design or just after opening the application.

All other menus option all active, opening additional designs has no effect, a new tab is presented on the screen top, but the design is not viewed in any view.

The only way our would be restarting the application.

@PreciseBio, sorry you're having this experience. Initial testing has not been able to reproduce this issue - could you please tell me more about your device? Information that may help:

  • Year/make/model
  • Hardware specs
  • Notable hardware configuration such as a touchscreen or power-saver battery mode
  • Graphics driver version and date
  • Attach Fusion 360 logs

If it's easier you can also attach a DxDiag report in lieu of typing out parts, that works just as well. Please note that DxDiag reports generally don't contain personal information, but will contain the username - feel free to edit this out or send me the file directly for privacy.

Hi,

I'm working on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, I attached the DxDiag report for details.

I also collected the Fusion 360 Logs

Hi @PreciseBio,

I was able to reproduce the issue and find a potential workaround for you - the issue seems specific to Fusion 360 set to DirectX 9. You may be able to work around it by forcing Fusion 360 to another graphics API.

For DirectX 11, you can find this in the dropdown under Preferences > General > Graphics Driver.

If Fusion was set to Auto-select, it may be that DirectX 11 is not compatible for some reason, in which case you can force OpenGL using an environment variable:

  1. Right-click on My Computer/This PC on the Desktop or in the Start Menu and select “Properties”
  2. In the left column of the System window that appears, select “Advanced System Settings”
  3. Within the System Properties window that appears, click “Environment Variables” in the bottom right
  4. Within Environment Variables, click “New…” under the System Variables section
  5. For Variable Name, enter NEUTRON_GRAPHICS_API
  6. For Variable Value, enter GLCORE
  7. Click OK to save the new variable
  8. Launch Fusion 360

I'm having the same issue with macOS 12.2.1 with a M1 chip.

After the screen saver has been on and I waken the computer, I get a notification

David_Ewen_0-1649542797001.png

However, I am connected to the internet. Email works, web browsing works etc etc.

Fusion is completely frozen and I have to force quit  or wait an extremely long time (30-45 minutes).

I can not close open files.

I can not open new files.

I can not close the dialog box regarding "internet connection"

The computer does not think Fusion needs to be force quit.

If it did, "force quit" would show up next to Fusion 360 in the dialog box.
