Fusion 360 for Advanced Use - 10$/month subscription (120$/year)

Yesterday Autodesk decided to upset all their F360 hobbyist user telling them that in 12 days they'll no longer be able to properly work on their designs.

It's a questionable decision, perhaps there were too many unfair users doing business with a “free” version and that’s unacceptable from a company point of view. I understand it.

But this software has improved during time also with the support of the loyal community that helped to make it an almost* irreplaceable tool for many of us.

I would like to ask all of you how many would pay a 10$/month subscription to have back some features, something like this:

Price

  •              120$/year (only yearly subscription available)

CAM functionality:

  •              2 & 3-axis milling
  •              Adaptive clearing
  •              Turning
  •              FFF additive manufacturing
  •              Water jet, laser cutter, plasma cutter
  •              3 2 milling
  •              Automatic tool change
  •              Rapid feed

Collaboration and data management:

  •              50 active and editable Fusion 360 documents
  •              Commenting, markups
  •              Public share links

Electronics and PCB design:

  •              2 schematics
  •              2 layers
  •              80cm2 board area

2D documentation and drawings:

  •              3 file exports
  •              Multi-sheet support (up to 5 sheets)

Local and cloud rendering (cloud rendering only with cloud credits – no free rendering)

14 export file types (*.dwg, *.dxf, *.f3d, *.1pt, *.fbx, *.igs, *.iges, *.obj, *.sat, *.skp, *.smt, *.step, *.stl, *.stp)

13 import file types (*.123dx, *.dxfs, *.f3d, *.f3z, *.fbx, *.ige, *.iges, *.igs, *.obj, *.ste, *.step, *.stp, *.stl)

All local and cloud simulation strategies (cloud simulations only with cloud credits – no free cloud simulation):

  •              Linear and non-linear static stress
  •              Thermal and thermal stress analysis
  •              Event simulation
  •              Structural buckling
  •              Modal frequencies
  •              Shape optimization

Generative design technology (Requires cloud credits or a subscription)

I think, this kind of subscription would be good enough for the most of the hobbyist and limiting enough to dissuade most of those crafty professionals to use it.

So... How many of you would pay for it?

*with ALMOST irreplaceable I mean that the most of us would love to stay with F360, even if we have to pay. But only a FAIR amount considering our hobbyist pockets, otherwise it is worth to consider alternatives (e.g. a “free” SolidWorks license).

I'm not sure the needed list of features is complete.  I'd need to see the coming 10 active document limit eliminated, or at least a high enough limit to not impede reasonable use for an advanced hobbyist.

I'm also not sure the price is right.  Maybe $10/mo with a 2 month discount if a year is paid in advance.

But I'm interested in this subscription model in concept.

I'm completely new to 3D modeling this year. In fact before Fusion 360 I was using Microsoft 3D builder (don't judge haha). I honestly don't know how many of the changes will affect me but there are a few that are concerning For example only 10 active projects at once since I have many projects going on at once. Does this mean I have to pick which I'm working on and disable the rest until I work on them, or do I have to delete the ones I'm not working on that go over the 10?

Anyway, I was thinking along the same lines. I get why they are doing it, they are a business not a charity... but... I'm wondering if there is a meeting half way option where a hobbyist could pay to get the features back. The $10/month was the price point I was thinking too. I've been trying to figure out what I could do to make $500/year to justify buying a license to pay for my new 3D habit 🙂 haha
