Fusion 360 Educational Access not Working on Windows X

Anonymous
Not applicable

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am running a Makerspace at a college, and was verified for educational access to Fusion 360. I followed the link from the confirmation email I received and downloaded Fusion 360 from the Educational access page, but it opens as Read-Only software with the orange "Expired: Subscribe Now" button in the upper right corner, and doesn't let me export the file I spent hours working on as an .obj file. When I click on the "Expired" button and select "Fusion 360 for Educational Use" it just takes me back to the page where I downloaded the package originally.

I've tried this on three computers. I tried uninstalling it on one computer and reinstalling it to no avail (now it's not opening on that computer at all because it thinks I already have the latest version, despite following every instruction I could find on manually removing all of the related files and folders and restarting multiple times). I'm ready to tear my hair out. Been working on this problem for 2 days.

Please follow the steps below carefully and see if it helps.

  • Go the Autodesk Accounts webpage, log in using your Autodesk ID and Password you used to obtain your Fusion 360 Educational License.  Select "Manage Products and download" at the top of the page.  Then select "Products and Services" in the left hand menu.  Go down the product list and verify that you have a Fusion 360 Student License.  Leave the page.
  • Make sure Fusion 360 is not running on your Windows 10 computer.  If you have to go to the Task Manager to verify, do so.
  • Navigate to the following folder %localappdata%/Autodesk/web services/
  • Rename the LoginState.xml file to something like LoginState.xml.old or move it to a safe folder incase you need it.
  • Start Fusion 360, when it asked for your Autodesk ID and Password, make sure you are using the one used to obtain your Fusion 360 Educational License and the one used in the first step above.

This process will rewrite your LoginState.xml file and will pick up your Autodesk ID credentials and hopefully your renewed license information.  If you have a problem, you can always go back to the folder above and rename the LoginState.xml.old file back to its original form.

Hi Jhackney,
Thank you for your response. When I follow the link you gave me to the
Autodesk Accounts webpage and access the Manage Products and Download >
Products and Services, Fusion 360 does not appear (only a product called
Render). When I click on the question link that says "Can't find product?"
I get a response saying my "subscription is expired: to renew buy online."

However, when I follow the confirmation email from the Educational Access
page and log in (with the same username and password), I can see all of the
products, including Fusion 360, that I have access to, and there is a
message at the top of the screen that says "Your educational access to
Autodesk products is valid." I tried changing my password from the
educational access screen to see if it would separate the logins (while
Fusion 360 was not running), but when I changed the password it changed it
on both account pages. When I tried to relaunch Fusion 360 with the new
password it still launched as the read only version. I also have not been
able to see Fusion 360 in the control panel on any of the computers I've
tried.

All of your posted images did not come through so I am blind to what you see.  I question why you attempted to change any passwords, this was not the issue.  As I mentioned you should only be using the Autodesk ID and password associated with your Educational license. You also did not mention completely following my steps, specifically one one about renaming the XML file which I consider a key to your success.

Hi JHackney,

I apologize for the delay in my response. I was out of the lab for a few days. The reason I had tried to change my password in the educational access page was because I could not verify your first step by confirming I had educational access from the link you provided. I followed the confirmation link I received in my email and saw the software listed there, so I thought maybe there were two accounts with the same username. Not so, apparently.

I did follow the remainder of your instructions and change the LoginState.xml file to LoginState.xml.old, while Fusion 360 was not running on the computer (I checked in the task manager), but after I relaunched Fusion 360 with my educational access username and password, it still opens the expired subscription version.

If you have anything else I can try please let me know. Thanks.
