Hello,

I have a huge problem. After saving the fusion 360 drawing file and trying to open it after reboot MacBook the window "the file is damaged" appears. I tried to open previous versions of this file but without success. Could You help me how to open this file because it is many hours of my work. It has never happened to me. I would like to attach the archive file of this drawing to investigate the issue, but I see the "attach" button vanished.

This is an update to my previous mail:

I checked all previous version of the file - cannot open any version of my drawing- even the first version. Every time appears the same window: "the file has been damaged and may've limited functionality", but cannot even go further because "continue" button doesn't work.

Now I can attached the f3z file - please help

Hello @Zbigniew.Krysa,

one of the possible temporary workaround can be trying to use different drawing template or recreating one that you are using currently. Let us know if this suggestion is helpful. As my colleague mentioned, in the meantime we will try to find solution for this issue.

If my answer helped you, please click Accept Solution. Thanks!

Hello rafal.chlodKWJUF,

Thank You for Your mail but I suppose this workaround will not help me in this case because the file isn’t opening at all (cannot pass through the warning window – file is damaged - software doesn’t response after clicking “continue” button), so I cannot change drawing template and recreating drawing either. Or there is any way to follow Your tip without opening the file…

Thank you @Zbigniew.Krysa for an update.

I was thinking of creating a new drawing template or recreating the one used so far by using the "New drawing template" option, and then using it to re-create the drawing based on the model. I realize this may take some time, but until the problem is solved this workaround may be helpful.

Hi @Zbigniew.Krysa ,

I hope you are using the latest version of Fusion (2.0.10564). We have made some fixes to avoid such issues in this version.

Also we are in process of making follow-up changes such that user can recover the file if they come across such situation. We have tested your file with latest change and we are able to recover the file without any data loss. This fix is going through validation and shall be available very soon. Be assured that you will be able to restore all sheets from the drawings.

Until then I hope you will not face any issue with new drawings created. Please let us know if you come across such issues for new drawings created with latest version of Fusion.

Thanks,

Dear Pramod Kadam,

Im really grateful for Your answer. Despite of the whole situation I'm really impressed of Your involvement to solve this fatal issue. Your message gave me hope that my entire work will not go to a trash.

According to Your questions I have always the latest version of Fusion and the latest version of Mac OS. YES I faced this issue two times yesterday with the latest version of FUSION (for the second time it happened even with single sheet of drawing after first save). I wanted even to create steps to repeat this issue but without success (It seems this happens with some randomness). Now I have been starting to create pages from 15 with hope to have access to previous pages  (1-14) in the close future. I've been also exporting to pdf every single page to have something from my work when the issue happens.

Really grateful for Your positive response

Zbigniew

Hi @Zbigniew.Krysa ,

As I informed earlier, both of your shared drawings get opened correctly with our ongoing fix. This fix should be available soon.

But to go more deeper into this problem we are trying to understand why the file corruption dialog coming up for these particular drawings. It would be great if you can provide some information.

1. We observed that both of your drawings are created for same model. Did you face similar issue for any drawing created for other model? If yes, can you please share it?

2. Do you remember any specific operation you performed which caused this problem?

Thanks in advance for the information.

Dear Pramod Kadam,

Thank You for Your post and for Your involvement in solving this issue. Below You will find my answers for Your questions:

1. This issue happened only with this model, but it was connected not only exactly with this single model but also with copies (I saved this model with different names in separate files). I have never faced this issue with other models created in Fusion 360.

2. There are a few operations which makes me wondering is could be the reason of this issue:

a) There was a version of this file (I can still find it in the history I suppose) where I deleted many items: unwanted construction surfaces and unwanted sketches - it was about 100 items. I'm wondering is this operation made my file unstable.

b) This file I've started to create in previous update and have been continue in last update.

c) This model is only one I have noticed to loose "appearance" (I mean wood appearance assigned to a few parts is permanently changed to dark steel appearance after reloading or changing visibility of a parts). Please have a look topic: "Model is permanently loosing material appearance after last update" placed 08-08-2021 on the forum.

d) This model is only one I noticed to look very bad with shaded look on a drawing. Please see the subject "Why front view of a shading object looks so ugly on a drawing" placed 04-08-2021.

e) The another operation which can be reason of this issue is saving both of the files (3d model and drawing). I noticed the issue happened after when I was saving both files (model and drawing) quite often (2-3 times per 10 minutes). It's a Irony because I wanted to prevent this issue in this way. It' s good also to ask You why 3d model is saving automatically just after placing the part into drawing? For example It happens when I change a visibility of single parts and put it into drawing. I noticed that I have 20 version of model more just after creating a few sheets of drawing. So the conclusion is that maybe automatic saving and manual saving of drawing caused the issue when are made in the same time in some cases.

f) Sometimes the information appears:

Zrzut ekranu 2021-08-12 o 08.20.48.png

It appears when Fusion 360 is minimized or software is not on the top of all windows.

I hope these informations will be helpful. I have also a Hope Your fix will be released soon and solve this issue because right now I really afraid savings. I'm working with my model with "pdf backup files" which is a poor workaround.

Have a nice day

I can tell you why you get this error. Fusion can not make a backup if you have a command running. It can happen in any of the workspaces if you start a command then leave it running, could be leaving a sketch in edit mode, the measure tool or looking at your message you've started the dimension tool then switched away to another program or minimised with the dimension tool still active. It doesn't really matter but you will not get any auto saves of backups until you end the command and Fusion can save at the next scheduled time.

A small update to this issue:

I havn't faced this issue since 5 days with this 3d model and here are two possible reasons:

1. Manual saving and autosave haven't been proceed in the same time. I reduced creating copies to 1-2 per days and was really careful to not create another copy of my drawing when 3d model is in the saving progress (blue circle is turning).

2. I've reassign appearance (wooden look) to the parts where the issue of loosing appearance was happening (Please have a look topic: "Model is permanently loosing material appearance after last update" placed 08-08-2021 on the forum).

After these two steps I havn't gotten problems with the model yet.

Hello Mark,
it's very interesting what You're saying but I have repeated steps You mentioned (created drawing, change visibility to proceed autosave, run dimension tool, saved both files) and no issue appeared. I mean both of the files could open correctly. Maybe small update to my potential causes of this bug will be helpful:

That's not what I said causes the error message. If you open a drawing, start the dimension tool then switch to another program for half an hour leaving Fusion in the background with the dimension tool still active you'll get the error because Fusion can not make an backup while a command is running. This only affects backup saves nothing else.

Hi @Zbigniew.Krysa ,

I hope you are doing great. The new version of Fusion is released today. This includes fix for file corruption issues. Please check your affected files. You should be able to 'Continue' even if the file corruption dialog appears and the file will be recovered without any data loss.Once you save the file, you will not get the file corruption dialog again.

Please check and let us know your feedback.

Thanks again for your patience.

Hello Pramod Kadam,

many thanks for the info. I've updated Fusion and (as You said) can easily open my damaged files. I confirm everything is working good. After I open previously damaged file and save it again - no more damage info appears. I hope never face this issue again but current solution is a big step forward. I'm very happy with Your support.
