Fusion 360 drawing alert

Anonymous
Not applicable

When I try to open a drawing, where I have inserted a picture with company logo and text, i get a drawing alert:

"The NLS files required to interpret the text entities and symbol table names in your drawing of code page undefined cannot be found or are not installed in your system.

Fusion 360 Drawings can try to interpret text entities and symbol table names using the default system code page; however, this might result in a loss of information.

To install the missing NLS files, double-click the Regional Settings icon in the Windows Control Panel.

Do you want to continue? Yes or no."

My Fusion 360 however freezes and I am not able to press continue or close the error. This means I am unable to insert company logo in any drawing or template. Whats worse is that I cannot open any previuos drawing that include the company logo without Fusion 360 freezes.

I have tried following this troubleshooting with no luck: this https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCA...

I am now at a loss of what to do and hope I dont have to redo every drawing I have made.

Hope someone can help.

Best regards

Morten

Hi @Anonymous

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble.

Please can share an F3Z of your files to have a look at? You can attach the F3Z file here, or if it is sensitive, feel free to send it directly to me, Clint. Brown {a} Autodesk.com

I'll pass this on to our development team to investigate for you.

Hello @Anonymous

We checked the issue. It seems like the issue is due to language settings of the machine. There are some utf8 characters of a language which is not supported by the machine.

There are several ways to solve this per our page https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-NLS-error-when-opening-DXF-files-with-text-that-was-created-in-another-language.html

Can you please give it a try and let us know if it fixes the issue?

Thank you,

Best Regards

Rohit Bapat

We have exactly the same problem on multiple computers.

The advice given under Autocad does not relate to the latest build of Windows 10

We use Danish and English character sets and both are installed under Windows Regional settings

It does not appear that the UNICODE option is available any more. At least it is not where described and windows search doesn't bring anything.

This problem arose about 4 weeks ago, went away for one week and is now back (tested on  3 computers)

In the web share space the drawings contain all details, but Fusion crashes when we try to open the drawings. When same files are exported in DWG format (via the web share) then all measurements and shadings are visible but not the lines of the parts. This is true when imported into Solidworks, Fusion and Alibre

I do not believe that it is the Danish or English languages settings that are at fault, and it seems to come from Fusion. We had Danish character æ in our drawing head, and have had that for months. We first got NLS warnings but could open and edit files and then around the last major build it locked up.

We tried opening on a machine with the previous build and the result was the same.

I have some additional information for you.

Base file https://a360.co/3dt0dIv
We tried to erase the drawing foot this morning and we could save and open drawing, repeatedly https://a360.co/3w4Y6RU
We then took the same drawing and wrote an English comment and saved under different name and fusion froze when we opened the file. https://a360.co/364I1Rz

After restarting we used file 1 again – could open at that time. We added one dimension to it, closed and tried to reopen and Fusion froze.

After this none of the files – not even the ones that only have the part projection could be opened (NLS error)

We have seen the same – open once and then never again with our more complex assembly drawings.

We have tried this on machines set up for Danish language (1) and 2 machines set up for English. Results are the same.

I hope you can help us because we have years of drawings documenting all our machines that are now useless.

I don’t believe that it is a NLS issue as this problem did not exist in March on the same computers, we got warnings that could be ignored up to about one month ago. If it was a regional setting on our machines the problems should have predated that

Best regards

Jens

Hello @jagSJMV8

Thank you for the detailed steps. I will pass them on to the development team to try to reproduce the issue. I have created a tick for this issue for tracking purpose.

I will update back once I have more information. Meanwhile, please try to make sure that the Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support checkbox is turned off.

Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support checkbox is turned off, and
after that we can make new drawings but all our 2D documentation (drawings
or templates) made over the last two years (prior to May/June 2021) crashes
Fusion when opened with an NLS error message.

Sometime between January 2021 and April 2021 we started getting NLS warnings
but we could just ignore them and the system worked, but around May/June the
system freezes totally.

The version of our manufacturing template saved on 18. March 2021 can open
but the one saved on 31. March 2021 crashes the system. We moved to a new
location in April an this could be a template where our new address was in,
but we could use and open it for 1-2 months after our move.

If we write text anywhere in the drawing – ex. our business address – the
system crashes. I am sure that the letters æÆ øØ åÅ are part of the problem,
but problems are not isolated to files that contain these characters.

It is really an intolerable situation to lose all our design history. We
were able to open ONE such file on a machine that had not been updated, but
after that one file it was exactly as worthless as the rest of our
computers. Irrespective that we ruin things for our UTF-8 requiring business
software such as CRM systems etc. to accommodate Autodesk, we cannot rely on
our documentation being available, and have to bank on 3-4 minutes of lost
productivity every time we open one drawing that has issues which is the
vast majority.

We cannot open drawings made 3 weeks ago without specific Danish characters
in the text ex. something like this https://a360.co/3eeORbw

Is there a place/way where we can share files that we do not want in the
public domain?

Hi @Anonymous @Anonymous @jagSJMV8

Good news, the August update went live today with a fix that will help you. Once your instance of Fusion 360 is updated, you will still see the NLS message on affected files, but be able to click through and open them.
