Free Orbit Controls Break When Editing Sketches at Angles to the X or Z Axes

I believe I've at least somewhat narrowed down a bug I've run into a here and there while using Fusion 360. I always ran into it when I'd be working with sketches at odd angles, so I made a new file and started messing with it.

I normally expect that the free orbit camera will rotate my model about the axes of my VIEW at any given moment; up/down mouse movement rotates it above the horizontal axis of my screen, and left/right about the vertical axis of my screen. What seems to happen is that when creating/editing a sketch at an angle to the X or Z axes is that left/right movement of the mouse now rotates the model about an axis coming out of my screen. It only does this partially, depending on how vertical or horizontal the plane is with respect to the origin; a plane that is mostly vertical will only show a hint of the issue, while a plane that is mostly horizontal will make it obvious. Clicking the view cube to orient to a standard direction will fix the issue.

Screencast (note that in the last 2 minutes I erroneously attribute the Z axis issue to the X axis; the same issue seems to happen for both axes):

Note, I mention it in my screencast, but this issue doesn't seem to show up with planes parallel to the standard origin planes.

Hi skikengineer,

I've been bugged by the same problem, it's been there for years without a fix. Made me wonder if I was the only one using Free Orbit! I was able to determine why it comes and goes and find 2 workarounds.

There's a case number assigned to it now. Let's hope they can put a high priority on a fix. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Eric

I also use a 3D Connexion space mouse, for what it's worth.
