Fit point spline locks up

Anonymous
Not applicable

Been trying to practice projecting and intersecting here. Using simple shapes with it.

What happens is,

I sketch a circle on front plane, then offset it to create a thin round profile for extrusion.

I extrude it so I have essentially a round ring.

I then create sketch, select right plane, then select project.

I select the very upper and lower points on the ring for projection.

On the right plane, I will create sketch with fit to spline.

For a while, it works as intended. I can select the spline and spin the end pieces (whatever those are called).

After a while, the spline locks up after I set one of the ends. Nothing will let me change it, not even deleting and redrawing it.

I have to shut down and restart Fusion to get it to work again, then it repeats.

It appears to be a new problem that never happened before this very last server maintenance on Saturday.

Please attach your model illustrating this issue.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

Thanks. Just tried again and it repeated. Going to try to to a screen recording so you can see exactly what I was doing.

What format should I export the project to? Be mindful I'm on the personal license.

If you follow the process I added to the previous post, you will want to use .F3D format, a native Fusion 360 file.

Here's what I was working on. Just some basic demo to show what was going on.

Included a video to show how I got to the failure. There's no audio, though, but you can see what I was doing.

I just restarted Fusion which allowed me to edit the splines that locked up on me.

I believe I created the same model you did, I will admit I did not create a temporary Box just to get a sketch plane, but I did not see any error with the Fit Point Spline at any time.  I also opened up your model and edited the last Fit Point Spline that you place without issue.  Splines will sometimes make the application hesitate and think for a second or two so this could possibly be what you are seeing.  If you save, close and open your problem file, can you edit the spline that was giving your trouble?

Re: "If you save, close and open your problem file, can you edit the spline that was giving your trouble?"

No, it doesn't allow me to edit it. I have to fully close Fusion and restart it. Then I can edit it. Any other files I may be working on or new ones I start in that session are infected with the same bug.

About the little boxes, it was a trick I saw someone use on YouTube to quickly set up a construction plane.

Might try it without the box and see if it's different.

It seems like using a temporary box for creating a new plan bugs out the fit to spline tool. Never messed around with the plane at angle tool, but that looks like the best option.

Thanks for your help.

It has nothing to do with creating the box.  After creating the box, you then remove it.  To remove it, you select "Body priority" as the selection mode:

this is at 3:33 in your video.  If you read the tooltip closely, it explains exactly what is happening:  "Click to select only bodies in the model" (the emphasis is mine).  Selecting this mode prevents you from selecting anything else in the model, including splines and spline handles.  And, you never go back and reset the selection filters after this.  The splines are not locked up, you are just not selecting them anymore.  Here is what your selection filter looks like after choosing "Body Priority":

so, you just need to go back in and check "Select All" in the selection filter, or turn off body priority mode, to get things to work again.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I don't reset it back to normal.

Going to have to try it again and see if it happens, and if I can "fix" it after that.

Thanks for that.

Edit: Just recreated my "bug" and then reset the priority which "unlocked" it. I've been messing around with basic stuff on Fusion, but nothing even remotely more advanced. Thanks again.

Sometimes I go too fast for my own good.
