File name version slow to update after save

I've noticed an issue with Fusion where the file version is slow to update.

For example, if you have a file open called 'File Name v3', when you press save it should instantly up-rev to 'File Name v4'.

In reality, it takes about 10 seconds before the version updates.

This is slightly frustrating as one of my common workflows is to save a file and them export it to .STEP. If I export withing the ~10s window before the version updates, the file will take the old file name 'File Name v3'.

I have seen this behavior for as long as I can remember on F360 and I am surprised it hasn't been fixed already. It's quite annoying as I like to keep the version number for tracking/file managment.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Hi, Jeremy.  Welcome to the forum.  I am seeing the same thing on my system, does anyone have any thoughts?

The name is not updated until the file has finished uploading to the cloud. So file size and internet speed will affect how long you need to wait.

Thanks for your responses, I figured that might have been the case, but that doesn't mean that it is the best implementation.

I measured the quoted 10s delay in a brand new file with a single simple sketch. I opened a much larger file and the delay was about 12s, so it seems that file size isn't that great of a factor.

I haven't had this issue with any other server based PDM system.

Can anything be done about it? Or is it just one of the downsides of the Fusion cloud based solution?

Cheers,

Jeremy

I just did a test on a couple of fairly large files with a lot of manufacturing data in them and it took less than 3 seconds so perhaps it also has something to do with time of day and how busy the cloud is. Autodesk seem to be waiting until the upload has been verified before updating the name which is probably the safest way, something like dropbox will update names almost instantly but cache the update in the background so if you look on another computer it might be several seconds before the name changes. Don't know if AutoDesk are likely to update how this works but I doubt it as this is not something that's a problem for most people.

Hi Mark,

That's interesting, I have had the same issue from multiple computers at different locations.

I also got one of my friends to check  and he reported the same behaviour.

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that we are located in New Zealand. We do have relative fast fiber internet connections though.

Cheers,

Jeremy
