Please add the ability to create independent origin axis with in part files. Either that or allow us to orient sketches to other geometry and not always default to the part origin.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can create sketch planes on flat areas of parts or on individual planes (Construct >...)

Yes but can you orient your sketch to other geometry other than the default origin? That is what I'm asking for. For instance when I'm doing an assembly and I need to create a part body relative to some other assembly ant it happens to be at some weird position I want to select that plane and orient the position of my sketch.

Hi,

Have you checked the different  ways of creating sketch planes > CONSTRUCT?

Forgive me but I'm not sure you understand what I am referring to. Constructing planes and starting a sketch is not the issue. Orienting the direction of the sketch is the problem. The sketch wants to default to whatever the part absolute origin is. Having done so your dimensions and geometry default the same way. So if you needed your sketch geometry to follow a certain orientation you would either need to move the part or the geometry in the sketch. In the case of an assembly moving the part would be impractical. Being able to define which way is up of the sketch negates all that. Simply pick a plane, then an edge to define orientation then the geometry in the sketch works the way you had in mind.

Hi,

1. Sketch mode:  CREATE > Project (shortcut P) bodies, edges …

2. show your process in a screencast

Correct, we are not understanding your problem.  Preference settings matter here,

Create a sketch, on any face or plane, which can be made with articles from the Construct Menu, beforehand, when looking at the sketch, front on, Y is up, X+, to the right of sketch Datum, Draw a line at any angle, for your new axis.

Might help.....

Please take a look at the Blog Article and Video.  I think it will give you what you are looking for.  It covers the creation of multiple User Coordinate Systems (UCS).

John,
Thank you so much for your reply. You understand what I am getting at. I do the process you describe. It works for now. The problem I have with it is having to manage extra components just for the axis or origin. I was hoping Fusion can simply incorporate the UCS in the any component so we don't have t create a dedicated UCS component.
