Failure to correctly heal (simplify) solid faces.

Hi all,

Using a .stp file generated from another software tool (OpenVSP), and importing into Fusion 360.

The .stp file contains excess faces, notably on the front/back (see images attached).

Previously these could be fixed by stiching to body and deleting excess faces, where Fusion would do some maths for a second and simplify. Now faces are completely deleted without any computional delay, without any evidence of an error.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

Cheers.

Some more messing around with this, seems that it can sometimes merge correctly.

Steps to replicate failure:

1) Import .stp

2) Stitch with default settings

3) Try to remove a face on front/rear

Possible work around:

1) Import .stp

2) Stitch with default settings

3) Do some measuring on the surface for 1min or so... (makes not sense to me too!)

3) Should now correctly simplify face on front/rear

I suspect this is a bug and is due to some internal operation on the body not occuring until measured, or time has ellapsed since import.

Two of the faces on each end are not planar while two faces on each end are planar.

You can test this by attempting to start a new 2D sketch on the surfaces.

Also, close inspection reveals a couple of degenerate points.

Ok thanks, sounds bit like OpenVSP issue with plane creation.

Any ideas why it will allow me to simplify faces intermittently?

As metioned above importing then doing some measuring allows faces to be deleted correctly.

Cheers.
