F360 locking up on startup

I've been happily using F360 (educational license, Windows 10) for several months. Last night, it started failing on me. I get to the normal editor screen, but then one of the panes goes black, and the app is then unresponsive and has to be closed. I've attached a screenshot as well as the last several log files.

The only thing that has worked to get past this so far is a thorough uninstall (regular uninstall + appdata & manual registry clean). Let me know if there's anything else I can try... I've been a software dev for 30 years, so I know how to get to just about any part of my system if there's something that'll help.

Just found one further thing... it seems to have something to do with F360 being closed while it's on my 2nd monitor (connected to my laptop via HDMI). If I close it on my laptop's screen, it reopens just fine.

Your log files indicate a lot of Windows Proxy failures.  Unless you really need to have a Windows Proxy configured, I would make sure it is off and disabled.

You said you found the issue in your previous message, why are you still saying it does not work?

I have exactly the same problem. Fusion 360 freezes at the splash screen this morning (October 31, 2020).

While I guess I can't complain, given that I have a free hobby license, nonetheless it does point out one of the really dark issues of having a subscription model where the developer can constantly update the product, breaking a perfectly good installation, as well as changing the UI in ways that sometimes takes the product in the wrong direction. The user is just a helpless traveler, with no recourse to go back to a version that worked.

I'm dead in the water with no ability to get it to work.

I found an additional detail as to what was happening... i.e., if I close F360 while it's on my 2nd monitor, it won't re-open and requires a complete reinstall to recover. That doesn't seem like finding the answer as to WHY it's freezing up. It's usable at the moment, but only barely... a 17" laptop vs a 28" monitor isn't a pleasant alternative.

I am an early adopter of fusion 360. Last year I had this same issue on my previous desktop. Autodesk tech support worked on my machine for several days to no avail. The only solution to this problem was to completely wipe my machine and reload Windows. Needless to say as a production machine this was a very time-consuming solution as the machine has many applications on it which required hours of reconfiguration.

I hate to say that this is happening again on my new machine and I cannot use fusion at my home office at this point. With the current covert situation this is not good.

I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions from Autodesk and am having no luck. I even tried the previous posters single monitor suggestion which did not work.

John, why are you trying to get this issue closed so quickly?

I'm hoping to hear something from Autodesk shortly to solve this problem. Another complete wipe of my desktop is not a very good solution. This machine has multiple manufacturing applications on it which are very time-consuming to reload and configure.

Gosh, I wasn't trying to close anything, although I did find a solution.

As I mentioned previously, I have the computer set to never update the O/S or applications. When the problem happened and I tried to uninstall 360 and it wouldn't install, I found an Autodesk uninstaller that removed everything without using the Windows uninstall feature. However, when I tried to reinstall, I got all sorts of script errors. I then tried starting a new install on a machine on which I had just freshly installed the same O/S. That install started normally.

In thinking about what might cause script errors, I realized that on my main computer I have never updated Internet Explorer, because I use Firefox, and because I never update anything unless it will provide new features. I realized that the newest version of Fusion 360 may use some of the DLLs that get installed with IE, so I went to Windows Update and let it install the latest version of Internet Explorer.

That fixed my problem.

I am sure that there are multiple reasons why Fusion 360 might hang at the splash screen, but for me the solution was to uninstall; update to the latest version of Internet Explorer; and then re-install Fusion 360.

John,

Thank you for the detailed explanation of what worked for you.

In a corporate environment not installing all updates to the operating system is a major no-no for security reasons.

Seeing that this is the second time that I've had this same issue on a different machine in a one year. I'm hoping that the fusion gurus can figure out what's going on.

I have worked through all of the recommendations on the support page with no luck.

I guess I'm heading into the office tomorrow to keep things moving along.

My problem turned out to be something related to my ethernet connection. When I unplugged my ethernet and use my Wi-Fi everything worked perfectly. As soon as I plug the ethernet back in I lose the conductivity to the AutoCAD server.

If I open the program and Wi-Fi I can see all of my files in the browser. As soon as I plug in ethernet that all disappears.

Hope this helps someone.
