Do you get an actual crash report? Does Fusion stop running, or is it just very busy? My guess is that the complex geometry is causing very long compute times. This is different than a crash. How long have you let it run?

Thanks for the model. Yeah, that geometry in the "shell" body is pretty complex, I can see why it takes a long time. I cannot say whether it would ever finish or not, TBH. I'm glad that you found a method that works for your goal. Combine and To-Object Extrude do use different methods, so it is not surprising that they take different amounts of time. Not sure why there is SO much difference though. If I have time, I may investigate further.
