Extrude to object boundary error

"Error: Cannot complete extrusion.
Cannot extend extrusion to object. The extrusion profile falls outside the boundary of the selected body. Select a face or plane instead, or adjust the profile so that it falls inside the boundary of the selected body."

Cannot figure this out. The galling part is that it was working fine until I changed a few things on the target object. I've redrawn the extrusion profile several times, and simplified the target object as well. The base profile must extrude to the bottom of the container while mapping to the contours of its base. It only works when not extended to adjacent faces.

@acpigeon - the error is correct.  In general when doing a "to object" extrude, the target object must cover the profile.  However, because the target object here is a plane, it can be extended.  Just change the setting here:

your image shows "chain faces" selected (the right-side option).  Instead, use "to selected face", and this will work

Thanks for having a look. Unfortunately the desired outcome here is that the extrusion conforms to the profile of the drawer component, so we must extend / chain adjacent faces as part of the extrusion.

I was able to resolve this by moving the extrusion starting plane above all the features of the drawer component base. This removes the error and allows me to chain the extrusion.
