extrude extent to object not working,

So I was following a tutorial for fusion 360 beginners, and in that tutorial, the guy was making a hinged boxed that I was also making. when he got to the hinge, he use the function to extend the hinge to the curved edges of the box. I tried it with distance,  and it was fine, but with the distance the starting point moved a lot and I got this error:

  Error: Cannot complete extrusion.
Cannot extend extrusion to object. The extrusion profile falls outside the boundary of the selected body. Select a face or plane instead, or adjust the profile so that it falls inside the boundary of the selected body.

Please attach your model so the Forum users can give you help directly to fit your needs.  To attach your file, open it in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save it to your hard drive. Then attach in to a forum post using the Attachments section.

The image shows only Distance Extrude, not To Object.  What face/object were you choosing to extrude to?  Most likely, it will be the setting of the Extend parameter.  This determines whether to extend the face selected, or to chain onto adjacent faces:
