Export to .stl stays stuck at 0% (seemingly tied to destination path length)

Trying to export a mesh through "File → Export" stays stuck with the progress bar at 0%. In my system, this seemed to happen when the destination path was too long. Exporting to a different path further up the directory tree (even without canceling the previous export task) worked in seconds.

This may happen on Windows, for example, when exporting to a OneDrive directory, since the destination folder may exceed to OS's maximum path character length (at least I have other issues with opening files that have been tied to this in the past)

Hi,

try from your browser with rightclick > save as mesh (STL/3mf)

Hi @andres.machado, if you enable long paths in Windows, does the issue go away for you?

Could you please provide an example file path, or character count for the path?

Funnily enough, exporting through this method works without issues on the original long path (also on the desktop app). However, the orientation of the mesh in the assembly is not maintained, meaning that the mesh is rotated after export. Do you know if Fusion is doing something different for exporting the mesh when using the context menu?

Here is an obfuscated version of the (very long) path:

C:\Users\Name-LastName\OneDrive - FullCompanyName123 Corp\Shared Documents - SiteName1\FullProjectName123\Z_Archive\DistributorName123\Customers\VeryLongCustomerNameSupervisedByABCDEFGHIJK\Year\Enquiry_YYYY-MM-DD\f.stl

It is 218 character long... so according to the information you linked, does not exceed the 260 Windows path character limit. Makes me wonder if my export problem is actually related to the path length, or if it was an unfortunate coincidence.

From what you describe, it may be another known issue with our cloud worker processes tied to File Export conversion. There have been reports of the current client having slow or inconsistent progress for exports, something we hope to have resolved soon, but it works sporadically, which also matches your description.

To answer your previous question, the context menu is actually using a different translator for exporting than the one from the File menu. I'm unsure why the distinction exists, but it seems to be of benefit in this case.
